He's the 17th highest paid player in MLB and hasn't been to an all star game in 6 years.

You posted an article from 2 years ago, 2 months into that particular season. Albert Pujols had an OPS of .510 on May 14th of this year.

I'm not arguing that Astros fans should be relieved he's gone. I just thought the term "worthless turd" was a bit over the top when he was one of the best hitters the Astros had the past 5 years, regardless of how you feel about him and his contract. It is just fact.

If you read that article the point is clear that I was trying to make... backloaded contract, declining performance, difficulty in finding any teaming willing to acquire him, bad defense. None of that has changed in the last 3 years.

And yes, in 8 years when Pujols is at the end of his contract I wouldn't be at all suprised if Angels fans are calling him worthless.

If offensive stats are Carlos Lee's only merit... I think the irony here is that even in Fantasy Baseball he was the 219th player taken in my deep league (13 teams, 29 players per team). He went at the same time as Brandon Belt, Mat Gamel, and Matt Joyce.

My point being, regardless of his status in all of baseball, regardless of how many teams wanted him, regardless of his contract status....he was arguably the best hitter the Astros had the past 5 years and arguably one of the better hitters on that team currently. Berkman and Pence are two other Astros I can think of that had decent seasons in that time frame, but Lee's numbers were just as good as theirs. That's not "worthless"

Again, I'm not arguing that he's worth $18.5 million or that he's a great defender. But if you think one of your better hitters is worthless? What label do you put on guys like Chris Johnson, Jordan Schafer, and J.D. Martinez?

If you compare a turd with crap, it's still a turd. Other than, Michael Bourn, Pence (who was young) and Berkman (who was suffering back problems) the quality of the players you are comparing against is not very good. The three I mentioend ranked bettern than Lee. THe last three years the Astros have been amongst the gutter teams in MLB.

He did not accept the trade to the Marlins.

He had no say in the matter.

If he's cranky and pouty, its terrible for the Fish.

If he's even SLIGHLTY motivated, and HOuston is paying most of the salary, then this is a huge trade for the fish.

.280 25 hr and 100 rbi would be VERY welcome by us right now.

I'd say the 3 youngsters you mentioned are well, young. And very affordable too. And no, they aren't doing the best job either. You should always get what you pay for. This franchise has never gotten anything out of Carlos Lee. The idea that he wasn't worthless because of the stats you brought up are a joke. How many other guys make as much a year as he does with those kinda stats? It's a joke. We never should have gotten him. Never. Deal was bad from day one. Anybody who thinks it's not, has, as others have said, not watched the astros.

Anything is better than lee . He's overpriced. Thank god we finally got rid of his ass.

Exactly what I'm thinking.
He played lazy and never seem to be worth a crap in clutch situations.
Trust me Markakis8, if you'd have had to watch him play for your team the last 6 seasons you'd be calling him a fat worthless turd too.
Good riddance.
David
