Yeah 09 draft is at an all time high. I was just quoted 85 for a box... ONLINE. These were 55 when released. Then again, its a great product.

How the hell are you supposed to make your money back busting that stuff at 85 a box? No refractor auto is going to sell that high. There's MAYBE one BLUE that will get your money back, and that's Mike Leake but other than that, good luck hitting a card that's going to pay for the box.

Its mostly because of the sheer lack of 2010 products.

Seriously, is Finest actually worth $100 or so per box?
Not everyone likes retro products, especially people who dont do sets or ones who like multiple GU/autos per box.

Topps is Topps and despite the insane price boxes go for, they are not worth it to break for the most part.

UD is mostly lower end stuff despite the price per pack.

So whats a collector/investor to do wax wise? Go for quality wax from last year and back. But now they have to pay more than what its actually worth because so many others are doing it.

It happened in 2006 when DLP was run out and most of their 2004/2005 stuff blew up.

So this is what it all boils down to.
The wonderful MLB monopoly has caused collectors to pay MORE for current and back issued products. More money out of your pocket (and us dealers) for the "honor" of having MLB telling us what to buy.

I love Finest, but there is absolutely no value in those boxes this year. The lettermans just aren't that valuable.

This has never happened before, at least not in my 21 years of dealing. A few of you are right, this is all about the Topps monopoly & the sheer lack of 2010 product. While I agree that the 5 companies of the 90s were way too much, I know that 1 is 1 too few. I commend Topps for the nice 2010 products they've made so far, not bad for no competition. At least they realize that if they lower standards they'll loose customers.

I'm almost embarrassed to say that as of yesterday afternoon there wasn't a single pack of 2010 baseball on my shop's shelves. I'd have to charge $4 a pack if I wanted to restock Topps I Hobby! Not going that route.

May's releases can't get here fast enough for me.

I completely agree with everything you said here.

Also agree with you, Ant. What's the point of busting wax if even a big hit doesn't get you your money back?

I noticed the same stuff-Blowout is just getting silly with their prices. I really don't see them moving stuff like the Topps Pro Debut at over $1k a case, $2,164 for a 2010 TriStar Pursuit case, and the stuff you already mentioned. It's just silly.

It is absolutely 100% market manipulation. As soon as blowout raises their prices, soon dacardworld and atlantasportscards, etc raise their prices the same day. What are they, gas stations? It is almost pathetic getting each of their "weekend sales" emails. They each offer the same products and the same price and more times than not, it is the same junk from last week AT A HIGHER PRICE!

And of course they have a trickle down effect to the shops, ebay, and shows. My dealer no checks dacardworld when he quotes me any bowman brand box price.

It truly is market manipulation and it is friggin pissing me off.

Sign my petition:

I will not buy any new wax product until this blatant price gouging ends*.

I've also noticed the crazy spike in almost ALL box prices, even stuff that used to be bargain basement like Razor Letterman and Signature Series. I refuse to pay extra just because there's nothing else out. It sucks, but I've just stopped buying boxes. I'm not losing anything - it's the online stores that'll suffer, not me! I can find plenty of other things to blow my money on.

They are paying $800 for a case of 09 Draft right now so not sure 12% markup is all that silly. My guess is these products are selling fairly well with limited products being released in '10 and the beginning of the baseball season, and they are having to restock which adds cost to the inventory they have and future inventory they will carry unless the demands slows.

Maybe people will start spending their money on singles instead of wax. It might work out in our favor :)

High case and box prices mean less people ripping, means less singles for everyone to buy. BOOOOOOOOOOO
