As I've said, I have dealt with Cliff HUNDREDS of times with no issues. He's sent extras lots of times.

I hope he stays and everyone can move forward. He is an asset to the collecting side of baseball and the game side of it also.

I am in no way defending Cliff on this, but I will defend him on virtually anything else. He is a great person and a great asset to this board. I haven't found everything out about this, but I can rest assured that something vital must have come up for something like this to happen.

now i will truly set the record straight......

1) in no way am i proud of how this went down or that it did, but was in a difficult situation and did what i had to to take care of it, and that im not ashamed of
logical...so steal from someone... real classy guy

2) his money was returned the following night, and he was offer a maybin bowman auto ( cv $40) in compensation for basically a 24 hour loan....which he decline as he wanted more (maybin bowman blue auto)
money was returned 2 days later... with no note or word from them! It wasn't until I contacted them via ebay messages after being ignored that they finally responded to my PM's. In which he asked what I would like and I stated $50 Paypal or the Maybin Blue.

3) mods feel free to delete my acct from this site, as i will not be returning. ive done nothing but continously buy from members on this site, im sure theres other sites who have members who will sell to a "d-bag"
you did get somethign right... "d-bag" and u are def associated!

Dude. he backed out of a deal. He didn't steal from you.
You got your money back... mark him off of your "Deal with" list and MOVE ON. I think trying to extort him for compensation is ridiculous, especially when you were really only mad because you planned on making money on the deal. Hell, it's almost BLACKMAIL if you told him that you would bash him on the boards if he didn't conform to your requests -- and that makes you just as dirty if you ask me.

Thanked. Couldn't agree more.

AND -- I absolutely LOVE the backhanded shot at the legitimacy of the autographs that he sells.

So.... because he BACKS out of a deal, he MUST sell fakes, right?
So, if I occasionally SPEED on the highway then I would probably pull off a hit and run, right?

While I agree that trying to get something more outta this is sleezy, the guy he bought the cards from has admitted to lying to get money from someone...that is fraud. Sure he returned the money, but it's still what it is.

YOU KNOW
jays cards i think you missed my point

in the sellers mind it was never a confirmed deal, he was only in it for borrowing the money in the first place, never planned on doing the transaction, i was making fun of him for it and think it is not right, not defending him, just clarifying

As the person who had there money taken away on this lot here is how I look at it..

1. I would have made $200+ on this lot... so there is $200 taken away from me because of his shadyness.
2. If I wanted to be a banker and give out loans for free I am sure I can find someone I know and trust to just give $530 to.
3. This deal tied up my money in Paypal and I had to sell a few cards myself that I did not want to sell to pay for a few other lots.
4. I AGREED to a deal and sent the money over INSTANTLY. I have 100% took care of my end of the deal.
5. Because he admitted he lied and did what he had to do (take money from me) he is now a saint? LOL!
6. The guy had no intentions of even telling me what was going on and ignoring me until I sent him a message via ebay when I saw the Porcello XFractor that I was supposed to get up for sale. So he was obviously gonna just completely ignore me.... yet he admitted to it so no wrong doing on his end.
7. Damn right I want compensated...I lost out on $200 profit, my money was tied up for 2 days, he wasnt even gonna contact me until I searched him out, and I had to sell a few items that I def did not want to.

If I'm wrong for wanting a little compensation for being ethical and standing up to my end of the agreement then I guess I am an *******.

I'm not validating what he did in any way... BUT

He's not Wal-Mart. He's not a professional business. People make mistakes. I don't think he was out to get you. Something happened, and I'm sure he regrets it.

But if something happened with me being in his position, I'd tell you to buzz off if you asked me for compensation, too. You got your money back, man. Take the high road...
Don't try to extort.
Don't try to make a federal case out of the deal.
You've smeared his name... now drop it. You're going so far overboard that you're looking slightly crazy.

I for one cannot believe anyone here is taking athconn side on this. The only reason I can see why is that he was an upstanding member and everyone thinks he is getting a bad rap. I wonder if this had been whityscards that did this around the time he was giving everyone the runaround if anyone would have taken his side. I know bates very well, one of the most straight up guys I know, his points are very valid. How many other board members would lend 500+ dollars for several days and not want a little favor in return, specially when it was done in a crooked way? You must all be the same people who enjoy lending the govt your money for a year and then getting it back with 0 % interest. I know if I asked any of you for 500.00 emergency loan for just 2 days, whether you wanted it or not, youd be getting a nice gift ftom me, it is just the right thing to do.

i will agree, bates has a good point. he made a deal and expected to get his end thinking he would make some more money. it does suck that athcon did something like this because it seems alot of members have dealt with him and he is a good member. i dont think i have made a deal with either of them so i cant speak from experience. but i really think its a crappy thing to call out someone on possibly selling fake autos just because a deal went sour.

im no saint, i have screwed up deals, but that is just crappy in my opinion.

I think the problem on the original poster is that the seller offered to give him something, but the original poster asked for more. Again I think what the seller did is flat out fraud, but two wrongs don't make a right, and I also think the original poster was wrong in asking for more.

I was under the impression that A.C. asked Bates what he wanted as compensation, not that he was offered the Maybin reg. AU first. I could be wrong though.

My impression is that he was offered the one but wanted the other, but I don't think it was entirely clarified.

Just for clarification...

I was never "offered" anything... I sent AC a message asking him to make this right i.e. send me the cards and I would send the money back or else I would like to be compensated for the above reasons stated. I was completely ignored by AC until I believe 2 days later when I sent him a message on on Ebay since he wouldnt reply to my PM's here.

Upon receiving a message from him he asked "what would I like for compensations".... I stated I would like either $50 Paypal or a Bowman Blue Maybin (after fee's would have brought the Maybin to like $55ish or so). In which case AC responded with he could handle a Maybin Bowman Auto but not a Maybin Blue and my request was WAY TO MUCH... tho never actually offered the Maybin Bowman

Now I am not a math teacher by any means but $50 Paypal or $40 SV on a card I believe is a $10 difference... and a Maybin blue minus $40 is $15... those are some astronomically huge numbers I guess.

Had I instantly been offered a Maybin Bowman Auto I would have gladly accepted the offer...but I was NOT ONCE ever offered anything by AC.

At no point have I stated his Auto's where fake, I just mentioned it could be a possiblity cause after dealing with him I SERIOUSLY question his business ethics.

Let's not forget I have done nothing wrong whatsoever in this deal, I was never offered anything and was being ignored, yet I am also getting flack.
