I was just wanting to get you guys thoughts on your current head coaching situation (or lack thereof). Who do you want, who are the legitimate candidates, etc? I saw where Hudspeth, coach at Louisiana Lafayette, withdrew his name today. I'm asking because I am one of the few Arkansas State RedWolves fans in the world. Sunday Hugh Freeze was supposedly rumored to be announced as the coach...which obviously was false. Hugh Freeze has worked a small miracle with the team this year and his name has come up from the beginning for the job with his connections to OM and the area as well as his close friendship with the Tuohys. Reading some OM boards, most absolutely hate the thought, and I hope they're right...I'd hate to lose Freeze after only 1 year. I am positive that he could be successful there, but I can understand their desire to make a splash with this hire. What's the latest from Archie and Ole Miss?

Also looks like Memphis is close to hiring HDN  Good for them, hope they continue to revel in obscurity.

The problem with Ole Miss is that it is a job that goes south quickly no matter how well you do. Its not a stepping stone school. Its more of a career ender or a see you at UAB 4 years from now type job if you fail because its an SEC school that doesn't have realistic expectations. That is why a guy like Kevin Sumlin or Gus Malzahn cant take the risk to take the job. They only get one chance at this and they have to strike while their stock is high. Look at Turner Gill at Kansas. Took the wrong job and he will be coaching at a school like Bowling Green or Wyoming 3 years from now. Its the same case at Mississippi State and I am not one bit shock that Dan Mullen would jump ship to Penn St.

An SEC school with unrealistic expectations....surely you jest  I agree, that's why I think they are thinking big....but their problem is who wants to go there? That's why I'm worried because they can offer Freeze 5x what we could pay. I see the latest rumor on twitter/internet is Smart from Alabama. I dont know much about him but he would seem to be an ok choice.

I think you almost have to go get someone like Paul Johnson from Georgia Tech or Ken Niumatalolo out of Navy. I will even add the HC at Nevada Chris Ault. Their systems work with 2 star recruits and making a living off of JUCO transfers. That is the only way you will win in the state of Mississippi.

I wouldn't want the job. MSU is already beating them in recruiting and they will get LSU and Alabama left overs.

Well scratch off Mike Leach. He was hired at Washington State and should do well there with California being nearby. He won't be at WSU for a long time..After he has a couple good seasons at WSU(and he will)..He will be hired by a bigger school.

Got it on good info that it's Kirby Smart's if he wants it. Not sure he will take it though because of the above discussed drawbacks of the job. He should be in the mix for any number of jobs though. Had Richt wet the bed at UGA again, Kirby was the hands on favorite to return to his alma matter. Reports are that Richt might retire to do missionary work even possibly after this season. That being said Kirby has to be the favorite to get the gig in Athens.

I've been reading that the Steelers QB coach wants the Memphis job. Talk about a challenge

I believe the Blind Side coach Freeze will end up getting offered and taking the Ole Miss job.

Malzahn should have taken a job last year. If he has the opportunity this year he needs to take it as his stock is dropping.
He could get the UNC job.

Most interesting is to see what Tennessee and Dave Hart do about the Dooley conundrum. He's got a $5 million buyout thanks to former AD Mike Hamilton. But it doesn't drop next year. So if they give him 2012 for that reason they have to give him 2013 as well. He's a complete disaster and the program has absolutely no morale so can't see why they would keep him on unless they don't have any other options.

A couple of names to keep an eye on for other jobs: Sumlin of Houston, Larry Fedora of Southern Miss

oh the UAB job is taken - my boy @lazylazy (check him out on twitter) has his eyes on the prize. the job was posted for a day on craigslist.
