It's probably b/c I like the Phillies that I feel this way, but these threads are far worse than Kevin's ******* Ryan Howard threads.

I'm thoroughly shocked GiantsSuperHomerCollector didn't start this one...although he did start the Comeback POY thread for Vogelsong.

VOGELSONG FOR MVP!!!

As a Phillies fan, those Ryan Howard threads are pretty cringe-worthy. However, the Giant fellating is almost as bad...

PS- As a disclaimer, I hope Vogelsong wins the Cy Young as he is helping my fantasy team...

Did you read the thread? I've stated a lot of times I don't think he will and have responded in a civil way to several posts trying to again make fun of Giants fans. But Vogelsongs numbers are there, top 20 in most catergories and he's 9-1 while leading the league in ERA, so it's not out of the question that he's in the discussion.

Again if people have such a problem with Giants fans simply don't read or post in a thread we start.

He's definitely having a career year, but he won't throw enough innings to warrant the award. I also wouldn't vote him "comeback" player because he was never any good in the first place. If there were an award for a "breakthrough" player he'd probably get my vote for that.

Valid point about the inning pitched, he's about 50 or so behind Halladay right now.

Is there a set criteria for comeback player? Vogelsong was terrible with the Pirates, but so was the rest of the team, I think he was 10-22 in three or four seasons. To me it's a "comeback" because he left the majors to go pitch in Japan and now he back and throwing well. But I could see the award being meant for a player who fell from greatness and has rekindled those abilities.

So he will finish top 20 in Cy Young.

Right now he's a little behind a couple of frontrunners. I think his main advantage is that his ERA is much lower than anyone else's ERA in the NL and he has an amazing win percentage (only 1 loss so far and that loss was in a 1-0 game). He has only given up more than 3 ER in a game ONCE this entire year and he has not had a monthly ERA over 2.60 so he's been remarkably consistent. He needs to get over 15 wins and maintain the ERA. But, I think some voters would look at a 16-2 record as equivalent to a 19-6 record. If Halladay ends up with an ERA closer to 3.00 while Vogelsong stays on course, you may very well see him pull out the Cy Young. Pretty amazing story for someone who's been out of the league for a few years.

As for Giants fans posting too much, who cares? Their team won a WS for the first time since coming to SF. I'm sure it was the same after the Red Sox won their first world series. I love seeing fans get excited about their teams. Much better than the swarm of posts we see after a prospect goes 2-3 with a 2B in low A.

If Halladay loses 4 or 5 more games and his ERA jumps closer to 3.00 ....... and Ryan goes 15-1 then YES

Otherwise there is no chance, it is a popularity contest too, Halladay is a great pitcher but he is even more popular NOW (w/ Phillies) than he is talented (dominating) IMO, same with Cliff Lee.... they are both very hitable unlike say..... Verlander is this year..... or Lincecum in years past.

On Volgelsong he would need to have a crazy W/L % (ie 15-1) win the ERA (maybe sub 2.00) and the Giants win the WEST to have a good chance...

You think Halladay is more popular than dominating? If Halladay (159 K, 2.55 ERA, 1.02 WHIP) is "very hittable", how would you describe the rest of the pitchers in the league? 14 Wins and 6 Complete Games seems pretty dominating to me...I guess that will make you pretty popular.

Those are pretty dominating stats, and I think he's the front runner for the CY........I was just curious if others thought Vogelsong's story would translate his boarderline stats into votes.

Yep, you were very clear that you thought it was a long shot. Even with a better ERA than the other contenders, I think Vogelsong will get overshadowed by a 20 game winner with big K numbers (it's looking like there may be a couple of them.)

I think it's kind of funny that after the other poster said that along with Halladay, Cliff Lee was "very hittable", then he went out and threw his fifth shutout of the year (more than the combined shutout totals of Kershaw, Halladay, Lincecum, Hamels, Jurrjens, Tommy Hanson, and Cain) to go along with a 2.96 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 167 Ks.
