Stealing a simple letter from the post office is a federal offense. It doesn't have to be valuable.

Thanks everyone. I went the registered route and as mentioned I had to peel off the tape I had put on (before reading here why not to put it on) and they did tape it for me for free. (They also commented how the other Post Office in my neighborhood would not have done it for free for me which I definitely believe.)

Thanks for the help guys. Now the waiting begins...
