is it just me but every time I put in an offer it gets declined and they change the price....is this common practice?

I have had a few people do this. I just take note and don't deal with them again. I also laugh every day I see the same cards listed I would buy at a "reasonable" offer. Not sure what some of the sellers are thinking, but if they want to sit on Andruw Jones cards that maybe a handful of collectors want, good for them. They will be sitting a LONG time. ;)

It is a very stange practice......some respond within seconds of my offer, decline immediately then run and change the price, I just have to laugh.

Casebreaker is one of the worst.....I remember trying to buy a Aromashodu (Bears WR) contenders for like $17 before the season started, he changed the price 4 times and keep declining my offer. I think the last one sold for $3 LOL.

I get about a dozen offers most days. I price my stuff usually far cheaper than everyone else (many times about 1/3 BV) and STILL get ridiculous offers of the max 50% off the asking price. I'm certainly willing to deal and am reasonable about it. What I'm not crazy about...

I get offers for far less than what the same cards go for (routinely) on ebay. Prospect stuff usually is where the low ball offers come in on.

Not really crazy about the COMC offer system and what some buyers do with. I kinda wish there was a text field to send a note back. Would make it easier to communicate and probably help close more sales.

I agree. I price my stuff very reasonably, but still get bombarded with 50% offers.

The thing that frustrates me with that site is you have to have money already in as credit to place an offer. I finally decide to make an offer on a $100 card or so and then the seller takes forever or they reject it. Then I have to pull all my money back out because I don't want $100 just sitting there when I could use it elsewhere.

I don't make many offers on there because of that. I wish there was a better way because I would probably make more offers if it was different.

Definitely the biggest downside for buyers.

I haven't seen that on any of the offers I've made, although I've only used COMC during the last few weeks. Almost all of my offers have been accepted, one counteroffered. Of course, I don't bother with cards that have completely unreasonable sale prices, so I'm not making 50% offers either. So far I've had good experiences, but there are cards on there that I'd like but I'm not going to make an offer on because of the seller's pricing.

As a seller, I just mark up my asking price because I know there will be low balls.

As a buyer, I get tons of deals. But there are a lot of semi-hard to find Thomas cards that are grossly overpriced...even offering 50% is still too much in comparison to open market (eBay) values.

Maybe some of you sellers wouldn't like me as a buyer there, but I typically offer the max 50% of the starting price for just about any card I want to purchase there. I figure it's a start to the negotiation. If I want to get a card on COMC, I'll usually check to see if the seller has any others I might want so that I'm offering to buy a bunch from one seller. Most sellers, from what I've seen, have their stuff marked up so by the time I offer 50%, I'm usually paying close to ebay prices anyway. I don't lowball when the starting price is low, but that's not what I see from most of the asking prices. I'm mostly looking for Upton fillers for my PC though and not prospects so maybe it's worse for prospects.

Some people are sitting on so much inventory that they can't accept 50% fast enough.

I'd say about half of my 50% offers get accepted, another quarter come back with counters, and about a quarter get rejected. The funny thing is, the ones that get flat out rejected are usually the ones marked up the most, where my 50% offer still has me paying a little over ebay.

and sometime you snooze you loose. if it is priced right i snatch it. i tried the half offer on a Juan card one time it was serial numbered to 25 i did not have it. the card was offered at $30 i made the offer and 10 min later the card was gone!!
i have not seen the card since.that was a year ago.now on those type of cards i do not mess around. on the very cheep .25 cent cards yes i still offer the 50% on most, but if it books at $3 and the seller has it at 50 cents i just buy it!
