As some of you know, I am a Lee Smith collector.
To date, I have 506/655 cards that are listed on his beckett checklist.

3 "cards" are giving me fits.
I have never seen these and I am not sure that I ever will.
They were newspaper inserts in the Sun Times and Tribune.
They are:

1980 Chicago Sun Times
1984 Chicago Tribune
1984 Chicago Sun Times

Does anyone have a scan of an example from these sets?
Anyone have extras?

Thanks,
Keith

Good luck on those. I remember seeing them in the paper but I doubt many survived in nice shape.

Also are you sure on the 1980 sun times??? Lee didnt come to the Cubs until late 1981 I believe. I could be all wrong on that

Keith I looked at your want list for Big Lee,

I have some of those early cards for you. Like the 84 7-up and the lion photo card. (which is actually postcard size!)

I just moved and I will be unpacking the pile of stuff I have this weekend. So when I find them they are yours. Since I worked for the Cubs at the same time Lee played there I might even have a few other interesting things that you would have interest in...if I can find them! LOL

FYI I knew Lee pretty good when he played for the Cubs. Great guy who was not appreciated at all in Chicago. Lee told me years ago that if and when he goes into the Hall he will be wearing a Cardinal hat.

I checked SportsBuy and Beckett Marketplace.

If Burbank doesn't have either one, those could be tough to find nowadays.

Good luck!

Thanks.

I have scoured every possible place with no luck.
They have to turn up somewhere!

I've been keeping an eye out for the Trib inserts for my Don Zimmer collection (http://www.collectingzim.com). They are just cut outs from the newspaper, printed on newspaper stock so they are quite flimsy. I don't even consider them a card, so I won't be disappointed if I don't find one. There is one page on eBay, but unfortunately no Smith or Zimmer.

If I see a Smith while looking for a Zim, I'll let you know. I have 84 and 85 7-Up cards if you need them.

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

I am down to 3 Cubs oddball cards other than the three newspaper inserts.
They are:

1984 Cubs Jewel
1987 Cubs Dave Berg
2002 Cubs Topps Best Moments - I believe that these were SGA's.

I also need a couple of Cardinal and Oriole oddball stuff.

I actually might have the david berg card. Again I will look for it when I unpack stuff this week

And just to be clear, you dont need the 7up cards or the lion photo right?

Here a pic of the 1984 Sun Times Lee Smith;

1984SunTimesLeeSmith.jpg

It's fairly large, like 11 x 14

And this is a pic of a group lot of the 1984 Tribune cutouts. Smith is at the top right. And Zimmer is top center for Brad;
