Collecting the uniform...but not the player?

I noticed some of the player collectors collect (insert player) but only in (insert uniform)

Isnt that more collecting the uniform, and not exactly the player?

This doesn't even make sense.... For example, some one might collect Griffey, but only in a Mariners uniform. That would be collecting Ken Griffey Jr. from his playing days in Seattle, a card of Jay Buhner in Mariners uniform wouldn't work, so, no, it's not collecting the uniform, it's collecting a specific player, at a specific point of time during his career.

It would be like collecting Albert Pujols, but only in his Cardinals uniform. Isnt that collecting the uniform more than the player because you dont want his cards with him in a Angels uniform?

A lot of people collect teams and will take anything from a team. For example, I will take anything Dodger related. That is collecting the uniform (or team, which is more accurate).

There are player collectors who collect a certain player, but might not want everything. Maybe they don't want any non-card items, maybe they won't collect anything before or after a certain year, maybe only playing day items (nothing after retirement), maybe no minor league items, or maybe they just want the player in a certain uniform. I wouldn't call this type of focus "collecting the uniform, not the player", but call it what YOU want.

I totally get what you're saying. I will only collect Butler in a Braves, Indians, Giants, Mets or Dodgers uniform.

Why does every player collector have to try to get 100% of every player's cards?
I just buy what I like, and so do thousands of other player collectors.
We're not all completionists.

I started collecting Burks as a kid in '88. When I found my old collection of him (40 or so cards) a few years ago, I decided to try and collect Burks as I did back then, before I stopped collecting in '93. At that time, he was with Boston only. Twice I've tried to add cards from throughout his entire career, but I don't find that as enjoyable.

For me I only collect Johan in a Twin's uniform because..
1. I don't like the Mets
2. New Yorker's have way more money to spend on his Mets stuff than I do!

I collect all Mexican players, but only a few I super collect. The Red Sox are my favorite team, so I added a player to super collect when Alfredo Aceves arrived to the Red Sox but only with their uniform.
