Over on the football boards, there are a good number of guys who collect alumni from their respective colleges. I was just curious as to see how popular this is amongst avid baseball collectors.

I'm a football guy first and foremost so my baseball collection gets the shaft most of the time, but I definitely want to expand my Miami Hurricanes baseball pc.

I picked up a Nick Swisher auto because he played for Ohio State. If anyone else from OSU makes a splash in the pros then I'll pick up an auto of theirs as well.

I have a complete run (minus gold /5 and black /1) of every base card, parallel, auto and insert from 2007-2009 Elite. I also have a complete run of every Classic insert and auto from 1992-1995.

I started about a year ago, and I'm up to 30 certified autos.

Justin Smoak, James Darnell, Reese Havens, and Wieters when his prices come down some. I mostly collect guys from U. South Carolina but I also look out for local guys like Brett Gardner, Wojochowski, and Chris Owings.

i have to admit I didn't think I'd see this many people this quick who collect college guys in baseball. I wonder if Upper Deck will be doing anything with their NCAA license for baseball. I'd love to get my hands on a Miami card of somebody like Pat Burrell.

I think the biggest difference in lack of collectors for college is that in baseball the best have no need for college. In football it is a requirement.

Good luck. WSU kicked our butts this year. You guys have a pretty nice stadium too.

The big difference for me is that Michigan football is on every week. Before the Big 10 network, I was lucky to see 1 or 2 Michigan baseball games a year. That said, I have started a PC of Zach Putnam. He of the Michigan team that beat David Price and Vandy.

Do you guys pick up players cards, even if they are out of professional baseball?

I still buy Wade Townsend when the price is right. Even though his minor league career was only a couple of rough years, his importance to the school makes him very collectible. He was the 8th overall pick and on a national championship team.

He signed with the Blue Jays, but hasn't pitched yet.

Interesting. Thanks. I don't see him making it far with all of the arm issues he's had.
