Let me start by saying ive hit a snag in my Topps 500 Club Slabbed Project.

The cards i need are either out of my price range, or just dont show up on eBay.

The latter is what im addressing here.

i need base Topps cards, like 1992 Thome, 1995 Sheffield, etc.

These are plentiful on Sportslots, and pretty regular on COMC.

Sportslots run about 18 cents each and then good S&H rates.
COMC run about 25 cents each, and slammed on S&H.

Sportslots is a grab bag, as you really dont know what your getting in
until they come in. no scans available.

COMC has the advantage of showing you the actual card that you are buying.

My intent on buying these is to self sub them.

I'd love to hear what my fellow FCBers have to say on this topic.

How much can you trust a scan on COMC or anywhere? Maybe you use the savings on Sportlots and just triple-tap every order so you can have a good chance at getting the best possible copy.

sportslots, if you can find a buch from the same dealer its great, comc i paid $8.00 for shipping for 21 cards to give you an idea. This is where with there cheap shipping rates Burbank migth not be bad. (wow i just said something good about burbank :o )

ive had good experiences with both comc and sportslots

Plus with sportslots the cards are coming in pwe which means they could get damaged during shipping.

That's not accurate. You have an option when you checkout for "Budget" or "Premier" shipping. Budget is for PWE's, while Premier is SUPPOSED to be in a bubble mailer or some sort of protected shipping.

And I also take a little offense to that as I sell a lot on Sportlots and NEVER ship in a PWE....in fact, I don't even offer "budget" shipping. So no, not EVERY seller ships in a PWE.

interesting responses so far.

i didnt think about "tripling" up on some sportslots lots. thats a good idea.

as for eBay, the cards that i am looking for really have little "value" per say.

what IS scary though, is that this ended tonight for $35.51, not the "norm" for sure

COMC.

COMC shipping really isn't bad. It's $2.75 flat, and .25 for every additional card. If you factor this .25 into your purchase price, you'll see it's quite fair.

If you're going for self subbing, I believe that's all the more reason to go the COMC route.

That PSA 10 is probably about right cost wise. A lot of folks working on set and player registries.

The 1st time I bought from COMC, I thought the s&h was a little ridiculous until I looked at it logically.

Obviously, on the surface, it looks like a lot money for shipping. For example: if you buy 100 cards,
you are looking at roughly $25 in packaging and shipping costs. The bolded is important,
because that's how COMC makes a lot of their money to keep the site running. The other reason for
it, is that they scan all the cards, they keep all the cards in stock, and when you order, they gather
all the stock together and ship all at once in new penny sleeves and toploaders.

Now imagine buying all those cards from eBay. Even if find all 100 cards from only 50 different sellers,
you are looking at a minimum of $100 s&h. Even if it's only 25 different sellers, it's still about $50.

So either way, you are money ahead, and know exactly what you are getting when you buy.

COMC's doesn't ship multi card orders all in individual toploaders.. I have had them ship me 5-10 cards a couple times and they were penny sleeved and sandwiched between two toploaders in a team bag each time. Not the best method of keeping the cards safe IMO. for what your paying for shipping I would expect every single card in a toploader and then in a team bag.

That's actually pretty safe, and if they packaged up 50+ cards all in toploaders, that'd take up atleast 15 team bags, which would be impossible to ship in a little bubble mailer.

Might I add, I believe they have a shipping discount. I think it's 50+ cards for $15 flat.

The $15 shipping is a promotion they run every once in a while. Their normal bargain shipping is available the last 7 days of the month and it is .15/card after the first 50 at normal price.
