I don't put much emphasis on awards & world series titles (team accomplishment, not individual). I just flat out ignore All-Star appearances. I judge a player solely based on their stats (both traditional & advanced) although there are some stats I chose to ignore (those that are really team stats disguised as individual stats such as W/L & RBI). I pay attention to advanced metrics because you simply can't chose to ignore a players defense and base running skills. It's not just about offense.

When looking at both Beltre's traditional & advanced stats and ignoring the BS stuff like WS titles, All-Star appearances, being most dominant in a particular year, etc. I see nothing to contradict the fact that he's a lock for the HOF. Personally I believe he's a first ballot once he reaches 3k hits but I can at least understand the arguments against it while I cannot understand any argument that he isn't a HOF caliber player.

He doesn't fit the preconceived mold, hence the snub by most.

Remember Tim Salmon, the AL counterpart to Mike Piazza when both won ROY in 1993 and were playing in opposite leagues for a number of years in the LA area. Just the similar circumstances were enough to draw comparisons across the pair. Unlike Piazza, Salmon never put up massive numbers, but I always considered him an all-star type player. Interestingly enough, he may be one of the best modern day players to never actually be voted or chosen as an AS. Looking at his offensive numbers, it is a little surprising that not once did he even get the mandatory team nod at least. I guess he didn't fit the mold either. In 1995 he was 34/105/.330 and that wasn't even good enough for a reserve spot! That was one stellar OF in the AL that year.

Have you read the counterarguments in this thread? Straight up silliness.
