About two months ago I was fortunate enough to receive a free Brett Wallace certified autographed MLB baseball from Leaf's Brian Gray. It's a very nice item, but as I only collect Cubs or Rays cards/memorabilia and build sets I'm probably not the best person to own it. The obvious solution is to give it to someone else who does appreciate it, and it's more fun to do it using a contest. Here's the question:
In 1983 I went to a spring training game to see the Astros legendary Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan pitch at Cocoa Expo Stadium. It was certainly cool getting to see Nolan pitch. Though I was only 7 years old at the time, I knew who Ryan was and that he was considered the greatest strike out pitcher in the game. However, my greatest memory of that game was not of a Ryan strikeout, but rather a Ryan gopher ball as the Express was taken out to dead center field with a towering shot that cleared the huge hitter's background in center field. It was approximately a 480 foot shot. Who hit the home run?
If no one guesses correctly, I will provide a clue each day until we have a winner. Once I provide a clue, you can make an additional guess.
Hint #1: He played in the NL.
Hint #2: He played for a division rival of Ryan's Astros.
Hint #3: He has the same name as a pitcher who played for the same team.
To the winner goes the spoils...
