Could Maddux be the first player with 100% of HOF votes?

My question is Maddux is a first-ballot, slam dunk guy - so why does it matter whether or not he gets 100 percent or not?

Is it merely for discussion sake or are people actually outraged?

Edit: This applies for everyone who is considered a first-ballot, slam dunk Hall of Fame candidate.

It only matters because it has never happened before, and because there is no good reason a candidate like Maddux won't find his name on some writers' ballots.

The only answer I've ever heard with any logic at all is that when a guy is such a lock, some writers will leave him off to vote for one more dark horse candidate. However, the logic there is obviously shaky. If you leave the #1 guy off the list to vote for esentially the #11 guy, there's a very high likelihood that that other guy is probably only getting a few votes, anyway.

Good luck getting Boston writers to vote or small market writers who will chalk up his accomplishments to being on the Yankees. How many times have we seen the topic "If Jeter played for the Royals would he be as well known or successful."

He won't get 100 percent, but I think there is a respect in the MLB for Jeter, despite the pinstripes and even though he might not be the best player on any of the WS championship teams he has played for.

If he was on the Royals or some other non-Yankees team - he'd still be a franchise star and a likely HOF lock.
