I don't often get to the monthly Thursday show here in RI; frankly, it sucks and is rarely worth the time. Tonight was a different story, though!

The Votto is the SP Blackless variation, I assume the seller had no idea since he had it for a quarter. Piazza Finest and Wilson Silk were a buck each; remember when that Piazza was a stupid hot card? Not too bad for a buck.

Along with those, and the handful of PC $1 GU and dime box gold, I grabbed this. I didn't know just how good it was, but knowing a very tiny bit about 90's basketball made me grab it:

Last one sold for over $270 in August. By the way, the price tag is wrong; I didn't get it for $2, I got it for $1.

:D

The first Thursday night every month, there's a small card show here in RI. It's been going on for maybe 20 years or so, but what was once a premier show has slipped to a handful of tables selling junk (and a few decent dealers who wander in by mistake). There were times when I'd close the show; at 9, when it closed, I'd still be there, going through whatever boxes happened to still be set up. Tonight, I was there for less than 90 minutes.

Yeah, you really killed it with the LJ! Those things sell for stupid money. Even common players.

How does a dealer let something like that go for a buck. I can see the Votto being overlooked but come on.

Second question. How in the world did someone else not scoop that up first. Unless you were his first customer.

The dealer I got that PMG from has been doing this for a long time, and I thought he knew his stuff. In the past, I've had a few minor scores from his bargain boxes, but nothing even 10% as good as this. I even said to my girlfriend how shocked I was that he let this go by.

I was not the first person to see this card, and I know that for a fact. When I first hit his table, I started with his quarter boxes, then his dime boxes. That took maybe a half hour; all the while, his dollar table was slammed with people. I might have been the 25th person to go through his dollar table...although it wasn't hard to find since it wasn't even in a pile! It was literally laying on the table, alone, with no cards on top of it. I may have decent skills at finding the buried treasures in bargain boxes, but this was a real no-brainer.

Amazing sometimes. I don't go through quarter boxes, but saw a topps gold ABCD winner as the top card once midway through a show. Just baffling.
