That's funny, there was a story on Monday about how he was all set to compete for a starter spot with the M's

Is he gonna start for the Cubs?

Dempster, Lilly, Zambrano, Harden, Marquis, Heilman, Peavy?

It says that he could compete for the 5th spot in the rotation, along with Marshall. If not, he'll work out of the bullpen. Marquis was traded to the Rockies.

Plus Peavy isn't a Cub. Sure he might be eventually, but as of now he is still a Padre.

It looks like Garrett Olson is the other pitcher involved in the trade.

If true, bad move on the Cubs part.
I agree I know when they resigned Cedeno there were out of options on him.

And getting Olson recently on meant trading him away too.

Seems the Cubs are just flipping people right now. I can't wait for ST to start.

That puts a dent in the Peavy to Chicago talks. Most "experts" thought Olson would have to be involved in any deal.

Unless the Cubs have finally gotten tired of the Peavy charades and figure to take a shot with a much cheaper Heilman.

They just sent Pie to the O's for Olsen!

So basically they traded Pie, Cedeno, and Olsen for Heilman.

I don't see the logic unless the Cubs know something about Heilman that I don't

Waaayyyy premature to be talking about Peavy in a Cubs uni.....ESPN only reported that talks MAY resume now that the new ownership has taken over. From all that I have read, it wasnt the sale that made the Cubs balk at Peavy, it was the asking price of half of their farm system....

This is how unexcited I am about the upcoming big league season for my favorite team, I forgot Heilman was on the team until I got the email from the Mariners about the trade. Now that I know we got Cedeno and Olsen, cool. Cedeno has the talent and needed a chance and a change of scenery, and Olsen should be a solid starter in the near future, and they're both cheap.

"This is a trade that just fit," Zduriencik said. "Our number-one goal is to continue to accumulate talent in our organization while doing everything we can to compete in 2009. Today’s trade allows us to acquire a young, left-handed starting pitcher with Major League experience that we will still control for five seasons. At the same time, by adding Cedeno we have a player who is very versatile and gives us protection and depth, and can compete for a job at second base and shortstop immediately."

Should be interesting this coming year..
