It looks like 38 Studios is all but dead. It also looks like things have been handled crappily by the suits, as communication to the government and the employees has been all but nonexistent. It's reported that Rhode Island taxpayers will be out up to $118 million. Ouch.

I wonder if Schilling really did pay himself back with the RI taxpayer money 38 Studios received.

What a mess. While obviously I'm a huge fan of his, this has made me lose some respect for him. He's someone who preaches fiscal responsibility yet doesn't take his own advice. Hopefully things don't end in total disaster and he can save face (and taxpayers from eating the costs).

For all the talk he has done about the PED guys he sure is getting knocked off his high horse with a sledgehammer...he's just as bad if not worse in reality since its costing taxpayers money.

He's also a DIE-hard War memoriabilia collector. At one point, he had a full WW2 Panzer tank.

I wonder if that stuff is now going to be available...

From the articles it sounds like he spent too much money on salaries and facilities and underestimated the cost in developing the games.

More bad news for 38 Studios

Not only did Curt Schilling’s company go belly-up and lay everyone off, it allegedly boned some of them via a relocation program that apparently didn’t do what it was supposed to do:
Some of the hundreds of 38 Studios employees laid off yesterday were hit with a second round of bad news this week when they were told by banks that homes they thought the company had sold for them hadn’t been and that they may be stuck with a second mortgage, Polygon has learned … One former employee said they discovered this week that their Massachusetts home, which they had been told was sold last year, actually hadn’t been. The bank contacted them this week to ask why they mortgage wasn’t being paid.
When stuff like this happens, investigators really start going over a company’s books. And when investigators start going over a company’s books, boy howdy do things get ugly. Because a lot of companies have fishy stuff on the books. If everything else is fine, no one ever knows.

But fired employees getting caught up in mortgages they thought their company disposed of? Watch out.

...not looking good for Curt, the stuck taxpayers, and former employees

I've said it before on this board but schilling is the biggest a hole that baseball has seen in a long time. I know guys that played with him and you won't find any one of them with a nice word to say about him. My least favorite player ever and it's not even close

When you owe the government this kind of money and news of you screwing over your employees like this........somebody going to jail. They will dig through his books and personal life til they find something. My prayers go out to the former employees who not only have no job and insurance, but some may not have a home soon. hope he gets what is coming to him.

IDK any details either way, but I HIGHLY doubt Schilling had much to do with the day-to-day operations of this, or any, company.

Typically it's a trusted advisor or friend who is the Guilty party in instances like this...

That's for sure. Around here, we used to call him "Red Light" since that is when the Camera was on LOL...

That being said, later in his Philly days, he lived about a 1/2 hour from me, and I talked to alot of folks who met and/or worked for him and never heard a negative story.

I doubt much, if anything, will happen to Schilling.

In reality, I believe he is more of the face and an investor in the company. If that is the case, I wouldnt expect more than a slap on the wrist.

If it turns out he is an owner and main contributor of bookkeeping, financials, etc, I would expect the government to take well-deserved harsh action against him. The government and taxpayers are already pissed off about losing at least $75 million, I dont think they will let it get swept under the rug.

My short list of ****** bags, from my days as a batboy/clubbie during the late 80s:

David Justice
Curt Schilling
Bucky Dent

How could Lenny "Nails" Dykstra, Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds not make this List LOL?

I was in the minors and never met Clemens or Bonds. I met Lenny a couple of times and he didn't rub me wrong.

I did meet Scottie Pippen once in 1993, and he is definitely at the top of this list if I include all sports.
