The only thing that I don't like about this practice is that the new card usually looks worse than the original. I think the background of the original card takes away from the signature when it is inserted. I also don't like when companies cut signatures out of 8x10's because the background is so distracting.

I think Razor Sig Series is one of the few sets that wouldn't bother me since the background is completely white and it would look like any other window-style autograph card.

What if the original card was better than the "newly" designed card? Like the Killebrew that was exampled. The original 2001 Fleer Greats was a beautiful set and the "Classic Cut" that was made didn't add anything other than to fill a void IMO. I would much rather have the original Greats card than the Cuts. Also, I don't like the fact that living players have cuts. Cuts were created to be able to add deceased players to autograph sets. The only thing I would say is that if the original card had some type of flaw (crimping, creasing, corner damage, etc.) and the autograph could be saved, then that would be okay to create a cut with that. But cutting up perfectly nice cards just for the sake of creating cuts is an awful idea IMO.

Most of the cuts Tristar has created are hideous. Once again, my opinion.

Like this one. [ebay:135gfhly]260524637428[/ebay:135gfhly] This looks Gross. Pun intended.
Or this one. [ebay:135gfhly]390129522240[/ebay:135gfhly] What were they thinking? ::facepalm::

Here's one of Bob Keegan. [ebay:135gfhly]120509195202[/ebay:135gfhly] I can't tell from the scan if that's a reprint of original, but if they cut up a '53 to make that card shame on them.

Also, have cuts of relatively collected players. I'd be pissed if I bought a pack and pulled a Kevin Gross autograph.

I am also not a fan of cutting up historical documents for the sake of securing an auto for a cut signature. Why not just put a redemption in a pack for the entire piece?

This post could fall on deaf ears, but I'm glad you're asking our opinions.

Not bothering to read all the pages already.

Here's my opinion. Take if for what it's worth (about 2 pesos).

Cut autos should be dead icons only.
If they are alive, it's retarded!

How do you feel about cutting up a trading card to make a trading card?

Why does it bother you?

Does the manufacturer who does it make a difference?

I have a problem with cutting up a card to make a trading card - the background of the signed card looks ugly when you try to blend it into another trading card.

I don't have a problem with cutting up a 3x5 index card or other paper signature to put into a trading card because the background is uniform white and can look nice if the windowed trading card around it is done properly.

Manufacturer makes no difference to me - I care about getting value for the card (or product) and how well the trading card is designed/constructed.

Totally Constructive Criticism

I'm not exactly sure why I dislike cutting a card to make a card but I think it might have to do with the following:

1) My OCD doesn't like the card inside a card look
2) It seems like the company is taking a "short cut" of some type. Either they aren't going out to get the auto if still living OR just riding sloppy seconds if the player is deceased

Like I said, just one man's opinion
How would you have felt if Topps (rather than putting in the product) cut up AFLAC autographs to make cut signature cards?
What if I cut up an unreleased (in autograph form) Razor card to make cut signature cards now? Razor M stuff???

Would this be ok?

BG
If that is what happened or will happen, please just say it
If you are being 100% hypothetical, then OK.
But it you are just trying to see how people would respond before throwing shat around, then please stop.
You would be just opening yourself to more criticism

They are doing this in their new minor league product.

How does it make you feel IF they do this as intended?

Ridiculous
Simply ridiculous to be a head of a company and come on a message board to talk shat against another company
Promote your company and not drag another down
As I read the first few papegs I was hoping this was just a thread started for discussion
Instead, it had a hidden agenda
BOOOOO to you sir

4). Creating this thread, then steering it towards what Topps is doing (at least twice by my count) is pretty craven if you ask me.

Not sure why this BS is allowed
Totally wrong
True colors showing

I'd also like to see who won the Wieters

You started the thread with the ultimate goal of ripping on another company.
It wasn't as if someone else started the conversation and then on page 6 you decided to give your 2 cents.
Not a single unbiased board member can stand behind you on this one
It was totally wrong for the president of a comapny (who also already has done things that rubbed some the wrong way)to come onto a message board and PROVKE and INSTIGATE versus another card company

Plain and simple, no brainer WRONG!!!

Even the avenue you decided to take (beating around the bush before finally showing your true colors and showcasting your agenda) was shady.

You wanted constructive criticism, well there you have it.
That was a terrible move on your part.

I didn't realize I hated Razor but thanks for filling me in on that
I thought I was the original Razorbacker

Best of success in 2010
