Here's an auction for a Refractor with no numbering on the back (not that I can see. Kind of a crappy scan). The description states he received it as a replacement from Topps.

I don't know what this means, nor am I trying to side with anyone here, nor am I trying to prove a point. Just saw it and thought it was interesting and relevant to the discussion.

Thank you for posting. That's very telling.

Taking a look at the auction, the picture of the auto is pretty bad.

However... look at the back of the card. It has no serial #ing, but it has THE HOLOGRAM on it!

So, either one of three scenarios exist, given Topps' claim that these are forgeries.

1) The seller faked the auto and put a hologram sticker on the back.

2) Topps produced the cards and before even sending the cards to the player for signature, slapped the genuine hologram on the back and the seller faked the autos.

3) IT'S A REAL AUTO RECEIVED FROM LINCECUM, JUST NOT SERIAL #ED. For all we know, there may be 50 cards of the 500 that were never serial #ed. And Topps lies.

My money is on #3.

4. It is a forgery by a Topps employee sent out as a replacement.

I had issues with this guy on another site. I traded him a lot of Peyton Manning rookie cards for some Garza Chrome stuff when it was hot before the Colts won the Super Bowl, he listed and sold them all after the Super Bowl thinking he'd clean up but didn't make as much as he expected, and then wanted to back out of the deal. Total d-bag who somehow has credibility on said site but has never been more than a goon to me. This is yet another red flag and I wouldn't touch it.

He was also on this site a while back, but had issues with another member ( don't recall his name), but it had to do with a Brian Westbrook auto.

If you look at the non numbered refractor in question, the auto has one thing different than all of the others.

The end of the last name comes in and ends as a loop to the left. All of the others, his name finishes with the last mark to the right. I hope that makes sense.

I didn't read all of the explanations, so this may have already been said.

Check this one out
Again, look at this legit auto you posted. The end of the last name ends pointing right with no loop back to the left.[/quote:2ew4r6ua]

All of his auto's are all over the place.

i just don't see how the heck someone got hold of that many all at once. one thing i would look at is the serial number of the holograms on the back of the cards. if they are all close, i would say legit on them. if they are all over the place, i would say false on them. if the serial numbers on the hologram are consistent i'm going with #3. there is no way that someone could get hold of that many holgrams with consecutive serial numbers.

eww stay away from these.

however, if a huge amount of these come around maybe they'll lower the price of the legit ones :P

DAMMMMMMMMMMMITTTTT! I was so happy that it was tougher to fake Bowman Chrome Auto's than say a patch or buyback auto (i.e. Bowman Originals) and now I guess it's all just gone to hell in a handbasket! Nooooooooooooooooo! :x :o :x

Note: At least these are obvious, I would hate to see what someone with some skill could do.
