Friedman got schooled on this trade. He just went from boy genius to friggin' moron in one afternoon.

Put me in the group of WTF. How could that be all TB got in this trade? Why would you even bother trading him then?

Agree 100%. If that's the best they could have done, then you might as well hold on to him til' at least the end of the season. I think the thing that hurt TB was they only recently (within the last day or so) told teams they would be open to trading him. By then teams already had their sights on other pitchers and thus, a bidding war did not commence.

I think the Rays held out too long, asked for too much (not really, but the other teams thought so) and then had to take what they could get at the last, panicked, moment.

Wish the DBax coulda offered something equivalent or better than that. I'm sure many other teams are wondering why they didn't pitch something to try to steal him

No longer a fan of this team. This was the last straw. The Astros got more in return for Cosart today than the Rays did for Price.

Clearly the M's and Tigers won this one but Franklin and Smyly is not chump change. They got two MLB ready prospects plus whoever that other guy is and saved money because of what they owed Price the rest of this year and next. Not as bad as everyone is making it out to be.

Get on the Cubs bandwagon. Think of all the prospects.

I hate the Rays and even I feel bad for them with this trade. In Franklin, regardless of his potential, they got a guy that Seattle wanted to give up anyways. They have Brad Miller to play short, so Franklin was pretty much ticketed as a trade piece for this entire season. They did Seattle a favor by taking him. Drew Smyly may be a decent pitcher, but not even his own mom gets excited when he starts. It's almost as if TB wants to run off their remaining fans, fold the team, and start over somewhere else.

Astros gave three for three. Only one guy close to MLB ready, and he has failed to perform when he got the chance. Moran is a high pick, but he is hitting under .300 in A ball... Not exactly a can't miss. Rays got a lot more than the Astros

Two MLB ready players, one young prospect, and saved a ton of money. Should have done better, but it's not as bad as y'all are making it out to be.

Even though my tigers got Price this hurts me also. I've been collecting both these players for the past 2 yrs(affordable). Ajax has been hitting very well lately and smyly was great out of the bullpen last year. Hate to see them go but love our rotation now:)

Going into today I accepted the reality that Price could be gone. I thought maybe the Pirates and thought Glasnow and Bell were coming here. instead I get a long reliever and a guy that can't beat out brad Miller who is hitting like under .200. David price isn't a rental, he could have been traded another time. This is just plain stupid. I keep waiting for another name on this trade. How does renting Jon Lester for two months get you ten times as much as David price for a full year plus. What am I missing? Why do you make this trade? How does Joe maddon keep the Rays from packing it in after this? What was Andrew Friedman thinking? The Rays are my team, that won't change, but I hope the fan base is given some answers. This deal was not necessary. Period.

Curious who the new team is going to be, JP. :)

That's easy - no one. I've always preferred rooting for individuals, anyway. The Friedman-powered Rays can go **** themselves.

Even Keith Law just posted about how much they got screwed in this fiasco.

Food for thought - how much better was the Myers trade than this?

(Even a stopped clock is right twice a day, evidently.)

Smyly and Franklin for Price? That's embarrassing.

I thought so too.I heard all along the Rays had to have all these MLB ready/top prospects, and all they seemingly got back were a bunch of spare parts.Don't understand what the Rays are doing here.

Still could have held onto him for next season. Then trade him.
