I think he's doing just fine. I'll take a guy who gets a hit or 2 every night with a SB over someone who goes 1-4 with a HR every 3 games anyday!

For me:
.350 with 20hr/20sb > .220 with 40 hr

All Day Long!!!
What if it's from your 3-4 hitter...

It doesn't really matter to me what place in the lineup it is. They could put Wright hitting 7-8 or-9 and he'd hit just the same.

I know 3-4 hitters are perceived to be big power guys, but if you were to have guys like I said previously for all 8 positions that hit over 300 with speed vs. 8 guys who hit 200 with a homer every 2 or 3 games, in my opinion, the better average/speed guys will win the majority of the games.
3-5 hitters are supposed to be power guys, which he is showing he's not, 2nd would suit him much better with his dink and steal style he's going to.

If they could get more people to fill the other spots, I think second would be fine. But with Reyes, Beltran, Delgado out, who are they gonna put everywhere else? They don't have anybody else to fill the 3-5 "power" spots. If they don't have those "power" guys, they might as well have Wright filling one of those spots, at least for now.

Murphy right now has more power than Wright, move him to 3 and Wright to 2, but when those 3 come back I wonder if Manuel will move Wright to the 2 hole where he fits best (I doubt it since Manuel seems to be an idiot...).

Well, heading to bed guys. Nice to have a sensible discussion on here, without some of the stupid random comments that usually get thrown in.

I think you guys are off target on saying that the #3 hitter in your line up must be a power guy. Many people subscribe to the theory that a team's best overall hitter bats 3rd with the big sticks batting 4, 5, and 6. When I think of #2 hitters, I think of bat control guys like Placido Polanco. As for #3 hitters, David Wright fits the profile as do Joe Mauer, Ryan Zimmerman, Todd Helton, etc. Sure it would be even better if the power numbers would improve, but IMO he should be batting third.

Personally I think that at some point in time he'll get hot and hit 8-10 homers in a month. He's had extended streaks without homeruns in the past (beginning of last season comes to mind) and he can break out at any time. The stolen bases are pretty nice, but his K's are a bit alarming. I haven't checked the numbers recently, but with the number of K's he has, and the number of homers, it's hard to imagine he'll be able to sustain the batting average, as his BABIP has to be through the roof.

Hmmm... what would I rather David Wright do, hit 30 homeruns or win a batting title. Tough one. ::facepalm::
I assume you mean that the batting title is better. I don't think it's so clear cut though. I'd take Wright's .325 30 HR over .350 10 HR any day.

What if that .350 got him the batting title?

A batting title is nice, but means nothing as far as wins and loses. (And looking from a hobby perspective, .325 with 30 homers trumps .350 with 10 homers every day of the week.
