Could turn out to be the perfect offensive boost for the DBacks.

I've always liked Allen. Hopefully he will get a shot. Good trade in my opinion. He's got some pretty good upside. Kind of surprised the Sox have given up on him.

Ya personally think this kid has a very bright future and is a legit player once he gets a shot because he has unreal power. Excellent move for the Dbacks and i guess the Chi Soxs are going for it and think they got a real shot. Carlos Quentin coming back is going to be a huge boost to the loaded Offensive lineup for Chicago.

White Sox Acquire Tony Pena (RHP) from Arizona in Exchange for Brandon Allen
The Diamondbacks traded right-hander Tony Pena to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for minor league infielder Brandon Allen.

Allen, 23, has split time this season between Doulbe-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte, combining to hit .281 (85-for-302) with 16 doubles, three triples, eight home runs and 43 RBI. Over his six-year career, he has hit a combined .259 (545-for-2,101) with 124 doubles, 19 triples, 84 home runs and 344 RBI in 569 games.

Pena was 5-3 with a 4.24 ERA (16 ER in 34.0 IP) in 37 games with the D-backs this season. He was 16-13 with a 4.08 ERA (101 ER in 222.2 IP) in 209 career games with Arizona. Pena finishes his D-backs career with a franchise-record 63 holds.

Seems like WAY TOO MUCH to give up for an average relief pitcher...Allen would be better served in the AL as a DH but is a good athlete with a lot of potential....strange move for K. Williams.... any D-Backs fans want some of his cards????

I don't quite understand this trade, because the Sox bullpen has been really good and Pena now has the highest ERA of the relievers except for Jimmy Gobble, who I never expected to do well.

Is this good or bad for his cards(market wise)?

It would have been nice if he was in a lineup years down the road with Viciedo, Flowers, Beckham, Alexei, etc BUT not sure if that was going to happen

This tells me that the Sox didn't project him as a possible replacement for Thome or Dye (Konerko still at 1B and Viciedo there down the road)

If he gets some playing time in AZ in summer of 2010, it's better than AAA for Sox farm team
