In other sports, defense wins championships.

In baseball, PITCHING with help from the defense wins championships.

If you can shutout the opponent every game, you are bound to run into a few runs here and there and you certainly won't be losing.

Outfielders are usually sliding and having balls go over their head due to being lazy, out of place and poor route running. All part of playing defense and one of the easiest things to correct. It matters because they win GG's over people that dont take poor routes. Rarely, do you see Upton in the athletic position that you are taught in teeball. Sad thing about Upton is that he has a great example out there with him: Carl Crawford.

So you're saying that any time we see a ball land in the gap in the outfield, it was "due to being lazy, out of place and poor route running"?

its overrated in general if you cant score points your not gonna win

Look at the Jets this year best d but couldnt put up points same thing with the ravens

The great thing about a good defensive football team... the defense can score, or put the offense into a great position to score. Baseball is frustrating if your offense sucks, you end up being like CC on the Indians... throw 9 innings of shut out baseball, and leave with a ND.

Very good point. Defense can score in football or at least set up the offense to score. And in basketball and hockey, defense can lead to easier scoring opportunities in transition. In that way, baseball just doesn't compare.

No, but the idea is that if any outfielder can slide to a ball and the ball makes contact with his glove then he could have positioned himself to catch the ball on his feet. You do know that sliding usually allows the baserunner to tag up when it would have been better to just let the ball land and play it on the hop ? Watch Bj Upton next year. Half the time he is in a stand up position with his hands in his mouth.
