Wow. I hope he gets his head on straight, not for baseball, that ship has likely sailed, but for his life in general.

The scary thing is that the Jays made it quite clear to him that he was on a zero tolerance program. Someone who's in control simply wouldn't be putting themselves in those situations.

I would assume everyone else already knows that. Ostensibly he doesn't and this is why we keep reading about his imbecility.

Actually, Brien Taylor beat him to the punch (get it..."punch").

Sorry...couldn't resist.

I thought that was Rick Ankiel?
Ankiel? or do you mean Josh Hamilton

Both?

Plus Elijah Dukes?

I dont know, kinda in the bag now.

What did Ankiel do besides totally lose it in the playoffs?

Keep in mind his catcher in the playoffs was Carlos Hernandez, not Mike Matheny. Ankiel had little experience with Hernandez.

So if he'd have had a catcher he had experience with he wouldn't have forgotten how to throw the ball anywhere near the plate?

Don't get me wrong, I find what Ankiel has accomplished in coming back as an outfielder amazing, but to infer that things would have gone differently if Matheny had been the catcher is an incredible stretch.

I believe Ankiel's meltdown was a combination of things and a certain few veterans on that team didn't help with the pressure they put on him.

He was in a bad spot...and the worst thing happened.

Regardless, Ankiel is most definitely a champ for how he has been able to come out of this.

------

Then again...are we referring to poor draft picks? Ankiel was a late second rounder, so discussing him with #1 pick busts, or first-round busts probably wouldn't hold water even if he hadn't made it as a outfielder.

Same with Dukes who was a 3rd rounder.

I think Ankiel's problem was Tony LaRussa/Dave Duncan.

For their expertise in turning veteran pitching scrubs into borderline all-star talents, they've had their share of problems working with young pitchers from the days of Todd Van Poppel in Oakland.
