I feel bad for Dez having his mom get attention like this. Hopefully he's a straight arrow and can prosper in the NFL, and now he can get his mom in a situation where she won't have to do that.

One of the potential drawbacks of keeping a story alive is that, if a story remains alive, reporters keep looking for more details to report.

And so on the same day that the mother of Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant told Thomas George of FanHouse.com that she believes Dolphins G.M. Jeff Ireland should apologize directly to her for the much-debated world's-oldest-profession question, ESPN reports that Angela Bryant was arrested in April 2009 for selling crack cocaine to police informants. In August 2009, she was found guilty of two felony counts relating to possession of a controlled substance and the manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance. She received a sentence of 10 years' probation, an apparent slap on the wrist in response to such serious charges.

In 1997, Angela Bryant was convicted of selling crack cocaine, and she spent 18 months in jail.

So regardless of whether she sells sex for money, she has twice been convicted of selling crack for money. (To paraphrase the mother from Meet the Parents, "Is that better than a **********?") That said, none of it matters to her son's ability to play football. His story can be an inspiration to many children who endure difficult upbringings, and we hope that Bryant becomes the kind of role model that so many kids who can relate to his situation need.

Doubtful. There's a reason he wasn't a top draft pick.

I was posting basically the same thing while you were, but you beat me to it. It's a rather minute offense that really got punished too severely (and I felt that way before he became a Dallas Cowboy).

My point should have been fairly obvious. Guess I need to explain now. Look at his attitude, look at how many teams passed him over and look at the facts now coming out about his mother. Fairly obvious to say he isn't going to be a straight arrow, role model NFL player.

But if the glass is half full to the rest of you, so be it.

There are a ton of guys in the NFL with a similar (or worse) childhood situation that that who have turned out to be great role models and standup citizens.

I don't care if his mother eats kittens for supper, that doesn't have a bearing on him. Not to mention we don't know the inside scoop of why she sold drugs. I'm not condoning it, but sometimes people have to do what they can to get by. I don't know the situation though.

The glass may not be half full, but it's got something in it. The guy has broken what laws? So his mom was slangin rock. You can't control your parents. And it happened when he was at college, not living w/ dear old mom.

I'm sure your parents are /were awesome people yet you're a dick. Sometimes nature and nurture can't singly explain everything. ;)

Yep. I'm not saying he's the perfect guy, but the "attitude/off field problems" are so blown out of proportion it's scary.

I also heard that it's now confirmed by multiple sources that the Ireland question did in fact only come about after Bryant had said the thing about his dad being a pimp and his mom working for her.

I should note that Bryant was trying to deny that......but I mean he would never lie. :P

Honestly I hope he is a good kid and somehow has been able to overcome all this B.S. in his life. I'm just a little upset if what I mentioned is true, and the Dolphins have been embarrassed and thrown under the bus over this.....when if that is indeed the case, people jumped to conclusions without the full context, and if anything - Ireland acted like a man not going back at Bryant, but just apologizing and doing away with the incident.

She's also demanding an apology from Ireland......but with all this that is coming out, is Ireland really the one in this situation that should be apologizing?

Anyone associated with Deion will be a problem. However, Deion has the special sauce that'll make him great. Sometimes, somehow, these kid's don't understand just how rich they can get and just how easy it is to piss it all away.

Deion has the ability to put that crap in context.

I like Dez Bryant a lot, and while he won't be mr. nice guy, he will turn out to be a good player until he decides that he's financially viable for the remainder of his life.

I believe having Irvin involved as well will help since he came from a rough background and can provide guidance to Bryant.

Definitely. Irvin is a great mentor and has a very strong sense of loyalty to where he's been. He's always been active with the Miami Hurricanes team and has helped with the growth of their WRs (and team overall).

Everytime I see Irvin on the tv,. I can't help but focus on his gigantic nostrils and just how much cocaine he stuffed up there.

I do love everything Michael Irvin, though. That ESPN 30-for-30 on the U was really good. Irvin breaking down with his Highschool coach, ballin' up a storm, was even better.
