I've always wanted to put together a vintage set so about two years ago I decided upon the 1951 Bowman set. I still have a long way to go but I'm proud of my progress so far. It's definitely a long term project. Plus some of the more high dollar cards are out of price range right now. Here is what I have so far.

Wow great set, those cards look awesome! What's the deal with that Paul Richards card?

That's a beautiful set - '50, '51, '52 and '53 Color are all gorgeous, actually.

Thanks for showing off your progress. We'll look forward to more updates.

It's nice to see some vintage cards here on FCB. That's a great looking start to a set. How long have you been working on it ?

I completed that set due to it being my birth year. Money well spent!

Awesome cards. Good luck with the rest of the set. I still need that Avila for my collection.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

I've been working on it for about two years now. I've mostly just been picking them up at card shows and have avoided using eBay or else it would definitely be more complete at this point. But I see that as making it a little too easy :p

Great start to a good looking set. I have been working on the '55 Bowman set but had kicked around the idea of doing this one or the 1950 Bowman.

I am looking forward to watching your progress.

Drove down to the Philadelphia Card Show today and picked these bad boys up. They're more worn than the others in my collection but I can't complain too much - I got them at around $1 per card. Definitely a case of quantity over quality. I'll probably look to upgrade them later down the line. This batch brings me up to 99/324.

Nice thread. I love those early 50's Bowman's. I have most of the Cubs cards from this set. I picked up a few of the 1951 Bowman football cards and have contemplated working on that set sometime.

Only one card in the entire set used original artwork, and that card (#195) depicts first-year White Sox skipper Paul Richards as a caricature, most likely because he got the job after set production started.

Haha, I actually don't know. That's something I would love to learn though. The first time I saw it I didn't believe it was part of the set
