After collecting almost 3 years worth of Goudey autos I am very selective about my autos. I actually paid like 4 extra dollars to get a better signed Rollie Fingers goudey for my set. The auto was cleaner, bolder, and looked better overall.

I think with some of those Topps autos the black ink was garbage. Anything from that set signed in blue almost always looks good.

ive noticed that too. i have a few blue ones that are nice and bold...just plain sweet lookin. i dont even know if i have any black ones from that set but if i do i know it is nowhere near as bad as those two!!

I'm almost certain they started out being blue. That is what can happen with blue autos when they are left out. They turn blackish and fade away.

I will buy duplicate autos simply based on boldness. For Chrome they are usually very good.

We have had a few of the Spahn's come through the shop. They are almost always like that. Almost sure he signed some of them in black.
