The Yankees rotation for 2009 will be:

Sabathia - **** - Burnett - Chamberlain - Pettitte/Hughes

The Yankees have already said they don’t plan on getting Lowe or Sheets now. If they did..that would be insane. Can anyone possibly argue that it’s not the best as of now? You have 3 proven aces, one potential ace, and Andy or Phil as the #5? That sounds pretty damn good to me.

Chicago Cubs: Zambrano, Harden, Dempster, Lilly, ?

Tampa Rays: Kazmir, Shields, Garza, Sonnanstine, Price

Red Sox: Beckett, Lester, Matsuzaka, Wakefield, Buchholz

Are those better? I don’t think so. I know some will just instantly say no because they just have blind Yankee hatred. I honestly believe they have the best in baseball. If not, show me one thats better.

from rotoworld.com:

Carl Pavano (from the Toronto Sun)

Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi said nothing was going on with free agent Carl Pavano, whose agent he met with at the winter meetings.

He didn’t expect anything to happen on that front until much later, if at all. The Red Sox and Marlins are also supposed to be interested in Pavano.

I HATE the Yankees but this rotation is very tough! Could be best in baseball. I was wanting AJ to be a Brave and hope he stays healthy. If Hughes is healthy and back to his potential look out AL East

I say they have really improved but my top rotations are the following:
1. Rays
2. Cubs
3. Yankees
4. Red Sox
5. Angels (would be higher but injuries are a factor)

Now why did you have to go and bring reality into the thread.

Its the Yankees.... they have the best catcher ever - Posada... best OFer back when Bernie played... and currently the greatest Captain to rome this great planet in Jeter!!

Clearly, he meant on paper. It isn't fair to assume they will all be injured. Sure, Burnett is injury prone, but still. I think it's safe to say they have the best, but it's close and I am partial.

Health is your enemy kev.

Besides CC all of the potential starters had injurys within the last 2 years.

Wong - Coming off Injury
Burnett- INJURY Prone
Pettite - Getting up there in age and has had past injury problems

Hughes- Hurt last year
Joba- Hurt last year - put him back in the pen

If they can stay healthy you will be nasty but you better hope they do.

It's a solid rotation although I'd like to see how Sabathia and Burnett and even Chamberlain and Hughes pitch over the entire season. I think Sabathia and **** should be solid, Burnett will be his old overrated self, Hughes is a huge unknown, and Chamberlain is promising but only made 12 starts last year. It wouldn't surprise me if this rotation isn't as good as it looks. Isn't that what happens every year? The Yankees spend a bunch of money to buy the best possible rotation and lineup on paper (the entire roster is literally bloated with past all-stars and MVP's) and for some reason most of their free agents never perform up to par.

The only thing that worries me is aj/jobas health (aj isn't superstar either but has nasty stuff when healthy) and a little bit that cc had a very bad season for hiim in the AL (but not too worried as he won AL cy young year before, but still something to take into consideration).

1)Peavy
2)Zambrano
3)Harden
4)Dempster
5)Lilly

I still have hope for somehow acquiring Peavy :ugeek: I would love for them to add Chris Capuano. Gaudin could fill in at the 5th spot in the rotation if Marquis is dealt.

If the Yankees rotation can stay healthy they will obviously be deadly.

I'm not going to say the Yankees didn't drastically improve their rotation, but let's see Sabathia not start and end a season with dead arm. Let's see Joba adapt to a role as a starter for an entire season. Let's see Burnett stay healthy for an entire season.

Let's talk on opening day. With Lowe and Sheets still out there we don't know what will happen to these other teams. Also Smoltz is rumored to be interested in joining the Sox, so imagine having him as a 4th starter with the 3 aces up at the front of the rotation.

C.C. is a beast... I don't care what anyone says. He is NOT injury prone, and has never had any major arm problems. He will win close to 25 games next season. Burnett on the other hand...

You gotta worry about arm issues with Sabathia.

Before the last 2 years he had only 1 season of 200IP... the past 2 years he has 494IP... Thats a ton of innings.
