Do you think Chipper Jones retires at the end of the season?

I've been debating this with a couple of guys in my fantasy league, and am curious as to what you guys think. Does Chipper retire with Bobby Cox, or hang around for a couple more seasons? Lots of compelling reasons on both sides of the argument (retire with dignity along with your manager vs. stay around to try to get to 450 or 500 HRs). I think he retires at the end of the season.

I think he should retire since he can't seem to play a full season without getting injured
But I think he will try and play atleast one more season

chip marches to the beat of a different drummer so its tough to say. the man hunts and then on the side he plays baseball for millions of dollars.

he said last week that he would retire when he wasnt good anymore before sticking around just to collect a pay check for a year. they talked about the morals of this statement for a whole segment on 680thefan the other day.

that said, it's quite a pay check.

According to the internet, Chipper is signed thru 2012 at $13 mill / yr and an option for 2013 - I would be shocked that he would not try to play it out, even in a limited role

He recently said that he feels fine and is playing well. He said that the hits aren't coming as much as he would like, but he is still getting on base. He said that he isn't thinking about retiring and wants to play out his contract through 2013. I'm sure his mind could change, but that is his intention as of right now.

Yup, this is what I read within the past couple weeks. Sounds like he fully intends to play out his contract if he can still produce. I see no reason he retires until then.

He clearly knows that his skills are in decline, and he has said that he is no longer the best hitter on the team.

His OBP have been impressive this year, but I wonder if he'll be feeling the same if he's still hitting around .230 with less than 20 HRs in the middle of August.

One question that people that follow him more closely might be able to answer for me: considering all of the holes they've had at 1B, why haven't they ever thought about moving him across there? Has it been suggested and he's balked at the idea, or what?

I think it would benefit the Braves greatly if he would move down in the order. I know Cox would never do that to him, but Chipper seems like the type of guy that would recognize this and accept the move. Heyward is clearly the number 3 hitter on that team.

Chipper hitting 5th behind McCann or 6th behind McCann and Glaus would be a great move.

Cal Ripken accepted this at the tail-end of his career and it benefited the Orioles greatly from 95-98.

Moving down in the order this year and the rest of his career will never take away the greatness that Chipper Jones possessed. He is a true HOF.

I think if he is around 450 after the 2011 season, he will play for two more years. Chipper would like to be in the 500 HR club and sporta a career .300 average. If the Braves would put him on the Willie Stargell plan, they could extend his career 4 years atleast....

Because he'll probably get a front office job that where he'll essentially get that $ anyway.

Why would he walk away from all that money?

The way he has been struggling he might retire b/f the end of this season.

I like Chipper and it is sad to say his days are done.

No way he plays next year.

It's not THAT bad. He is still getting on base frequently. He also said in the interview he would never retire during a season.
