buying and selling someone who just passed away? I remember this discussion on the baseball side when that pitcher died. What do you think?

personally i dont think so. its dumb to buy, obviously. If you have it, you might as well sell it.

I really wonder what % of sellers actually get paid when this happens. I'd imagine there are LOTS of nonpayers that bid the prices up.

Doesn't really bother me, but if your first thought when an athlete/celebrity or anyone for that matter dies is how you are going to cash in, I guess that could say something about your character.

A quick ebay search for Chris Henry last night showed a ton of new auctions, funny thing is a bunch of them were for Titans RB Chris Henry. ::facepalm::

It's kind of sad, but it's not like the people went out and killed him to make a profit. In theory, it's like if a company sold their oil at a higher price because there's an oil shortage. Of course this is a human life, not oil. The sellers have lives too, and have to do what's best for them.

That being said, I could never force myself to list anything after the death of an athlete. I just felt wrong trying to capitalize on it (debated it back with Darent Williams and Damien Nash passing). I don't look down on anybody who can though.

Something I DO have a problem with is the garbage that will throw together a "RIP Chris Henry" tshirt in photoshop and list it. That's disgraceful, sad, and a whole mess of negative words.

completely agree with card magnet, selling your cards should not be frowned upon, but when you make something like that its just completely disrespectful and classless

I had a bunch of Henry stuff in my store. 4 or so items sold out of there, and I put the remaining ones on live auctions or fixed price listings. I'm not trying to make a killing off him, but if I don't sell it now, it'll probably be worthless in a week or so.

I don't think it's wrong. I do think it's distasteful. I had a Cup rookie auto patch of a hockey player who died in a motorcycle crash a couple of years up for auction before he died. I felt bad that I had an auction up at the time, but it wasn't like I was trying to profit off his death.

People make all sorts of money off of the deaths of others. Its not new, nor is it a problem. There is a demand, so people sell. Im sure for the people who buy, they actually like to have things to buy.

I had always wanted one of his Exquisite RC autos for my Bengals PC. I am definitely going to wait awhile before I try to pick one up.

People will always try to capitalize on the death of celebrities/athletes. Like Lisa said, I don't think it's wrong, but it is a little distasteful.

As for that eBay listing for the website, that is 100% wrong.

the website for sale on ebay can be reported as a banned item. its directly linked to a tragic event, so technically it is prohibited

Yep, that is awful. I just reported it & hope others will as well. (Prohibited > Offensive & potentially offensive items > Items produced by or linked to disastrous or tragic events)

Wouldn't that technically make all of his cards against ebay rules, since they are linked to his tragic death? Not saying I think they are, just thinking aloud.

How would you ague those as offensive though?
