I just pulled an Ozzie Smith Commemerative Patch from a 2010 Blaster. The printing on the front and back of the card reference the 1982 World Series, yet the patch says 1986.

These used to be the cool kind of errors that I cared about finding when I was a kid, but now it's just an annoying production error, right?

Is that really an error? Cards talk about highlights and whatnot all the time on the back even though the swatch isn't from that moment.

Now if the patch says something about the 1986 World Series, and the back says it's from the 82 World Series, then it's a definite screw up. It's an even bigger screw up because I don't think Ozzie Smith was in the 86 WS (I could be wrong on that though).

yeah, the patch says 1986, a WS in which neither Ozzie nor the Cardinals were in ::facepalm::

Scan coming.

Oh, I see what you mean now ::facepalm:: . I was thinking a patch from a jersey, not a manufactured. I think I need a cup of coffee to wake my brain up since you said commemorative  .

That's a true error there, and not fun at all. I wonder if the entire run is like this. Probably. Two thumbs up for Topps QC...not.

Hey, it's early.

And i couldn't find another like it on eBay, so it's not the entire run at least. I should list it as an error/SP/eBay 1-of-1!!!! and spend the little extra for the subtitle so i can continue the exclamation points down another line.

Those patches are pretty easy to remove. They are just glued on. Not implying that you switched them yourself. I pulled a Mathewson awhile back and I couldn't keep the patch on at all. IMO, those cards are pretty cheaply made, I have the Gary Carter with the 86 patch that is all crooked. If I were you, I would contact Topps and get a replacement for it.

Faking a fake patch!! ::facepalm:: Likely done by an overworked, underpaid Topps employee on Friday afternoon.

There have been many error cards with wrong sticker autos, wrong GU swatches, upside down patches. They are a neat variation for a player collectors but I don't think people seek them out. You may get a bit above market value but I wouldn't expect a bidding war.
