Does AROD's Hip issue imply long term steroid use.

As a guy who loves science and teaches Anatomy and Biology, I do discussions about steroids in class when we get to drug abuse. I had a kid come in today and ask if it is possible that AROD's Hip cyst was from doing roids. I thought long and hard about it and realized it is plausible to assume that a cyst was formed from injections of steroids. I dismissed it to the student this morning saying that expert doctors said it wasn't related but the more I am thinking about it the more I have been looking around.

I found this read.

The site for those who don't want to read it shows that cysts form from osteoarthritis which he has on the hip, a place most people don't inject. However, osteoarthritis can come from steroid use and would not necc. happen in the place of injection...

What do you guys think. Is this proof AROD was not experimenting a couple times with his cousin and actually used for several years or do you believe him?

No, this is not proof. As you mentioned, if the cyst is in fact at the hip, most people don't inject right at the hip. There will never be proof on how long or how often he used them

I think his bizarre conflicting discussions on steroids (including his pathetic apology) imply long term use.

His hip is just...well...a hip.

There is potential for some relation of the cyst to steroid use. The cyst could be due to a prior infection from injection. However, the injury does not imply anything, while the cyst does. The injury he substained does not have anything to do with the use of steroids, yet, the cyst could be due to it.

If people shoot heroin between their toes to hide marks, why couldn't he take roids in the hip? Hell, maybe his cousin was just that stupid. We'll never know. I think it does deserve a little thought, but we'll never know how long, where, or anything really.

I never said he couldn't but rather MOST people do it somewhere else. Could he do it in the hip? Of course.

The clowns from the local sports radio were positive that the hip is where his cousin injected him with the roids.

My mom had a cyst in her hip. I assure you she has never injected steroids.

Oh, right. I didn't mean to direct that at you. I was just saying it in general.

One more thing I wanted to add since I read the full article instead of the bit in the OP - It's interesting how it says that the cyst doesn't come from the actual inject, but the cycle. I'd have to tread more on that to understand it because I'm no doctor or biologist. Don't have the time right now though.

Who freakin' cares!

Seriously, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is at its lowest point since the mid-1990s. The unemployment rate is at 8.1%. Millions of homes are in foreclosure. The NBA had to borrow $200 million to keep some teams afloat (allegedly).

And we're worried about whether a cyst on Alex Rodriguez's hip is "proof" that he took steroids for an extended period of time.

I'm a tad bit more interested in finding out the answers to the following questions(in no particular order) before I go speculating on whether the cyst on Rodriguez's hip is a definitive sign of prolonged steroid abuse:

1) Was Jimmy Hoffa really buried in Giants Stadium;
2) How did the Octomom really afford that Hollister sweat shirt in the latest photo of her perusing through Target?;
3) Will CitiGroup become nationalized?
4) Where in the world is Waldo anyway?
5) Will Lawrence Taylor win Dancing With The Stars this year?
6) Will the Dow dip below 6000?

As you can see - this A-Rod stuff is played to death and, in the grand scheme of things, isn't very important.

Well in the grand picture of it all, neither is posting on message boards or collecting cardboard.

In order to clear some of this up, let me provide some insight. The hip can be a wide range or description, so to say his hip doesn't really tell us anything.

Steroids should be injected into the top outside of the butt, which could easily be called the hip. Further more the comment about the cyst doesn't come from the actual injection. What they could be alluding to is that it happens more common when you repediatly shoot into the same area. What happens is that you will get or could get oil that does not disbure into the muscle tissue and therefore an infection or cust could occur.

Good point, he should also get some of his questions answered, here's 1:

Mythbusters did a huge show on Jimmy Hoffa at Giants Stadium, using machiney that would detect anything under the field, where he was alleged to be buried and came up with nothing. So Giants Stadium is out.
