Hey,

I had a seller leave me a retaliatory negative positive, because he was mad at the negative I gave him. This person took nearly a week to ship the card, wrapped it poorly (not even a top loader), and charged $2 for a plain white envelope. So he left me a + feedback with negative content about how sellers should avoid me.

When eBay's feedback system is abused like that, is there any recourse a buyer has? I thought the point of the new policy was that buyers should tell the truth about a bad seller. Interestingly, all the seller's other negatives were due to the same shipping carelessness. It has nothing to do with me that he overcharges for shipping and treats cards worse than dog crap. :x

If the card arrived in good condition I think it may have been a little overdone to drop a neg. I would think a neutral would have been more than justified.

Who reads positive feedback anyways?
I would think most people look at the feedback precentage and skip the comments, but hey, that just might be me.

I can understand your stance. But if the card arrived ok and was not damaged
then why even leave a negative. It makes not sense to me. The guy charged
you 2 bucks for shipping and your all up in arms.

For me I just hit them with a lower shipping score and move on.
But it is your right as a buyer to see you need to be treated as you fell.

Not bagging on you just saying, what I would do if it was me.

Considering sellers cannot leave anything other than a silly positive...he at least is able to express his displeasure in your feedback.

Fair enough for me.

If you truly felt that he deserved a negative, you clearly struck a nerve and he responded the best he could. So, whether or not you deserved the response...I applaud the seller's effort.

I'm a firm believer that eBay has screwed up the feedback system so much that they might as well neuter the sellers and force them to sell everything for $0.01 with free shipping. The sad thing is, sellers would still get low DSRs.

Same here, I wouldn't worry about the comment, no one will read it anyway.

Yes they will. I had a seller leave me positive feedback, but it was negative. eBay removed the feedback description completely.

If the card got to you undamaged then what's the BFD? And the fact that he charged $2 for shipping should've clued you in on the fact that it was probably going to be a PWE. Also, I don't think a week is unreasonable to ship a card as most of the people on ebay have, I dunno, real lives and get busy doing other things. As said, I think the neg was a bit much. if I had made the purchase and the card got to me undamaged I would've given him a lower shipping score, neutral and possible positive feedback and just noted that he was a PWE shipper. Caveat emptor pal.

I just left a PWE seller a positive but with low shipping scores. And a comment stating he sends in PWEs. I normally would have just left a positive and the normal 5 stars but the seller states "not responsible for lost or damaged mail" in their description. I don't think putting that line in there saves any seller from a Paypal dispute.

Couldnt have said it better! As a seller, leaving a positive negative really is the only thing we can actually do.

Really? The ONLY THING?? How about protecting the card you sell with, I dunno, a top loader?

If I had received a card in a PWE with no top loader I would drop a neg too. If I were about to spend my money on a card, but read a negative feedback warning me that they would be shipping the card in a PWE with no top loader, I would be grateful to the person who left the negative and warned me.

I don't think that any of you fine sellers who hang out here would ship a card in this manner, so you have nothing to worry about right?

And lastly, after I read the title I thought this thread would be about failing a drug test.

Ebay doesn't do anything that would help a seller out or anything that will cost them any fees even allow fake/forged autographs or other fake sports items as long as they get a cut of it they are happy.

I don't think that's the issue here. The new feedback system is great for buyers, so we can finally be honest. There are so many positives I was forced to give less than scrupulous sellers, for fear of ruining my own feedback rating. If buyers don't pay, they should get unpaid item strikes. However, eBay should be structured around buyers, so that we can feel safe leaving honest feedback.

For me I do the sleeve, topload, tape over the top, team bag, wrapped in a piece if paper thanking them for their business, thats taped up, then slipped into a bubble envelope with tape over teh address to ensure rain doesnt smear.
So I take pretty much every precaution necessary to ensure its a transaction the buyer is happy with.

But then I have some people who win something and never pay. I have left probably 7 false negs in the last 2 months.
One of these clowns actually came back under a different name, won something at pre determined BO price, and screwed me again by not paying before Ebay caught on.

I agree that a buyer has to feel safe doing a transaction for ebay to work. But there is a limit that sellers chalk stuff up to "just" the cost of doing business.

Myself? I have contemplated not selling on ebay any more because of a combination of fees, unfair feedback processes, and the constant pain in the a$$ that it can sometimes be.
The way I look at ebay now is that it will be a really easy transaction, which happens 99% of the time, or it will be a complete pain and turn out to be not worth my time.

Also everything comes to an end.
One day ebay will be under the gun to improve as a whole. Myspace was #1 for years and look at Facebook and twitter now.
If they keep alienating sellers by raising fees with no actual site/process improvement or , buyers wont have anything to buy.

This is not pointed at the OP, but I just wanted to chime in that I too think the ebay feedback system absolutely sucks. Unless I really took it up the you know what, I will ALWAYS ALWAYS leave 5 stars in all categories for the seller and a positive feedback. I get it that people aren't robots and have a life outside of ebay, so if something takes a week to ship to me, no problem. Whatever. I'm not going to slam him in a feedback. I also understand the raking that sellers can take on the whole feedback DSR deal, which totally sucks in my opinion.

You can send a gem mint card the same day payment is made via overnight delivery wrapped in a 3 inch thick lucite holder with 4 platinum plated screws securing it shut for FREE with a note in the package saying why you feel it's so important for the buyer to leave you 5 stars and how you pride yourself on customer service and remind them how you shipped it, that you charged nothing for the shipping and used overnight delivery and still receive less than 5 stars in every category! There is NO accountability of the buyer, just the seller. It's just ridiculous.

Meanwhile, as the seller, you'll need to file a non-paying bidder alert and wait 15 days for the the same guy who gets his card like I mentioned in the above scenario to actually pay you and he'll have the balls to email you and say "can you please take a minute to leave me positive feedback?"

I'm tired of it too (in case that wasn't obvious).

As for the OP leaving a negative feedback and feeling he was retaliated against, he probably was. Although, the problem here is that the seller wasted his time to even do it because it really doesn't matter. I believe very few people read the actual comments and once it's off your front page, no one will care. You read the feedback score and might glance at a comment or two on the first page and that's it. I doubt most buyers even do that much. I don't think you needed to leave him a negative in the first place. If you want to be technical he could have stated he ships in a PWE. I'll ask how you would have felt if the shipping was free and he used a PWE? $2.00 shipping for a PWE is too much. You could have left that comment along with card was received as advertised in 7 days and a neutral if you were that dissatisfied and lowered the DSR scores. But to each their own I guess!
