I read an article yesterday announcing that he has been promoted to manage the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. I am planning on going to see him in Reno against the Aces and then in Sacramento against the Rivercats. Does anyone know if he ever signs before or after the games? I would love to get his autograph on an OMLB.

Thanks!
Tom

I don't know if he signs but I'm planning on hitting a couple Aces games myself this year.....I'd love to see the Aces play Iowa. Ryno and Butler on the same field once again!

I think so, but I also believe he only signs at a certain time(or once). I am not sure which if its before the game, or after.

Sandberg will take the time to sign whenever he can........at some point you should be able to lock him down...

That is great to know. My friend and his wife named their newborn son Ryne last year after Ryne Sandberg. He's hoping to get his son's picture taken with him.

Saw him three times in Mobile. Here are some tips:

A. He will sign down the baseline closest to his dugout 10 minutes before game time.

B. He will sign 1 item on everything but mostly takes his time on bats and balls.

C. If you want the HOF inscription do not ask for it. Otherwise he will just put #23

Oh Canada......
Here are my expierences:

Meet him 2 times in Tennessee when I went to see the Smokies and he was signing more then one item per person, he was signing before the game on the side of the dugout and the fans knew where to start lining up haha.

I asked him to put "HOF" on it and he did me one better and put "HOF 05" and he had no issue at all.... and was doing it for almost everyone, that's the only reason I tried to request it.

Sucks he won't be in Tennessee this year :( we always make a family vacation there.... but it will be nice to see him managing in the bigs soon.

He will sign bats/balls/helmets/cards/breasts..... haha just kidding but he's a great guy and you will see that for yourself.

Later.

I had a chance to meet up with Sandberg when he was a manager in "A" ball and he came to Beloit, Wisconsin with his team for a weekend series. I happened to know the crappy motel that the team stayed in and since I knew it was going to be a madhouse at the park I waited at the motel. This is the ONLY time I have ever waited at a motel for an autograph and I cannot tell you how surreal it was to see him coming out of this crappy , greasy spoon restaurant attached to the motel. Since I was the only one there I asked politly if I could have his autograph and he could not be more gracious. I guess it also helped that I brought with me a photo of the 1986 Cubs team to get autographed that only was available to team personel. He asked me how I obtained it (I used to work with the team) and that he had the same photo is his collection. We talked for a few minutes outside the motel and I wished him luck. He actually turned to me and said "Thanks for remembering me" and wished me well.

When I worked for the Cubs he was a class act and it was good to see that the hall of fame didnt go to his head. Class all the way!!

Nope not a waffle house. Think midwestern city who's best days are in the past. Think motels that were built in these "best days" that are true motels. all the rooms have an outside entrance and there is only one floor. The kind of place you probably would not really want to stay at but you have to because its the only place around to stay. Now think about the restaurant that is attached to these kind of motels where only truckers and motel guests eat at. This is the last place you would ever think of seeing a major league baseball hall of famer coming out of.

The funny thing is Beloit, Wisconsin is almost litterally over the Illinois border and about 75 miles from Chicago. There were numerous people walking by us with Cubs hats on and Cubs bumper stickers on their vehicles. NONE of them recognized Sandberg even though he was autographing a baseball of mine!

met him last year in Montgomery. NICE guy.. signed, even took a picture with me. However, from what I hear some people were double/quarduple dipping, and he noticed. He lines up at 6:40 for a 7pm game and signs until he has to stop. Usually 7:05. He will usually sign two items, however, it is tough to get him to talk b/c he wants to sign for everyone. Good luck, I got a 1983 fleer rookie card signed in Cubs Blue. VERY NICE, and 2 baseballs (came back for the Sat night game).

He signs before games like everyone said, but if you can get in for BP that is the best time to get him.

Depending on how many people are around, he'll usually do 2 per but will sometimes do 3 if it's not a big crowd and adds HOF 05 to most items without being asked except cards.

I saw him twice, first time I got him pregame he did 2 ss omlb, 1 with HOF05 and the other #23. Second time was after BP and I got an 8x10 with HOF 05, ss omlb with HOF 05 and a Topps RC card signed. He's usually not very talkative especially with big crowds, but he is a champ about signing usually.

Yep this is true, I actually got Ryno to sign while at a cubs game, he was going to the booth to to the 7th inning stretch
and I happen to be at the bottom of the ramp that he took to go up. I asked and he said sure will. He signed for like 5-6 of us.

He really is a nice guy, good luck on your quest.

I was fortunate enough to get him to sign for me at a game as well. I threw out one of the first pitches before the game where they retired his number. Talk about surreal. Throwing out a first pitch when 30,000+ people are watching and standing at the foul line are Sandberg, Dawson, Santo, Billy Williams and Banks watching. Only one thought was going through my mind, don't bounce it in. :D A perfect 57 MPH fastball down the middle was delivered. ;)
