And some of us don't like spending the occasional $70 on a box only to get firewood. I would imagine at some point you would want to sell your collected items, just like me.
Would I? The money I spend on wax is part of my disposable income and is for my entertainment. If I don't get anything back from the wax I bust I don't look at it as a loss because I still had fun ripping some packs. The singles I buy are a different story.
This is a shared concept, you and I have, that seems to run thin around this crowd. Like you, I look at the money I throw at wax as disposable with the real joy coming from busting. If I pull something I can sell, immediatly or otherwise, its just a bonus. Too many look at wax as a way to make immediate money. And if you think this way and are only busting a few box's here and there, well then... I think your going to learn a hard lesson and/or this is not the hobby for you.
If you want to attempt to make money, you buy cases and hope for the best. Even then there is no gaurentee but like someone else said, it will atleast equal out the variances a bit. Or else you buy singles. I wish more could share the notion of collecting and busting for fun, as it's really a fun hobby!
I am sure there are just as many collectors as there are prospectors. I for one happen to be both. I collect HOF 1/1 cards just to say I have one, and I also buy and sale minor leaguers for fun/money. I haven't bust a box since 2003 and it feels awesome!!!
