If anyone has any Andre Dawson let me know!
I have two major scores heading my way soon: sealed Becketts from Nov. and Dec 2002, with samples! The Nov. has a 2002 Leaf R&S, the Dec. has a 2002 Donruss Originals. Hoping I get a couple of Gold Samples!

Well, that went poorly. Got those two 2002 Becketts in today; the Leaf R&S Sample was Mark Mulder, and the Donruss Originals Sample was Derek Jeter. EXCEPT...when I tried to take the Jeter off the insert card, it ripped a chunk of paper off the back. At least the old Becketts are a fun read. Remember back when Adam Dunn was a listed star, and Kaz Ishii RCs booked for $6-$10 and up? Or when Brett Myers and Barry Zito were the best RCs of the 2000 RC class? Or a Bowman Chrome Pujols RC booked for $300?
I ran some numbers and came up with some possible PRs for these samples. According to the December 2002 magazine's circulation statement, Beckett printed a shade over 285,000 copies of the October issue. At one card per issue for a 100 set, that's 2850 total samples. Golds make up 10%, so that would make 285 Golds and 2565 Silvers.
However, Beckett also states that out of the 285K copies printed, almost 87,500 copies were never distributed. That makes for a net distribution of 197,500 copies. In theory, that leaves us with around 1780 Silvers and 200 Golds.
But then again...and I don't know the answer to this, as I was out of the hobby at this time, but were these samples only included in copies sent to mail subscribers? If that's the case, then we end up with a PR of 500 Silvers and 50 Golds (based on mail subscription of 55K copies). This seems more plausible considering how hard these are to find.
They were inserted in the store copies for sure. I remember getting a couple of these samples back in the day from store bought copies.
