Sure looks like the guys are having fun at the Nat. The only one I've ever been to was in 1995 in St. Louis. I grew up in Southern Illinois near St. Louis, so it made for a good excuse to go home ans see my Mom, and go to St. Louis a few days at a time. Only had one son at the time, so that made things easier, too! Anyway, I dug out some of the swag and goodies I got back then. Promos were the thing back then, and we all thought they would hold some great value down the road. Whatever.

There was a heavy football theme, as the Rams were just about to begin their first year in St. Louis, so despite the "Best City in Baseball" thing, there was a lot of football going on.

Rams Commemorative sheet. None of the players were there to sign, I think they had started training camp. Sure would have been nice to collect a few sigs on it.

Classic/Score Board sold a special set for $10. Had 20 cards in it, (sets were numbered to 9,995,) and had a randomly inserted Phone card. Yes, a phone card. At one time, they were the next big collectible (but then again, so were POGS!) My phone card was of Bonds, (1,000 made, so it's a nice rarity for a Bonds collection) Typical Classic pics--no pro uniforms, only collegiate or airbrushed out.

Martin was there signing autos. I had an autograph ticket for him, but traded it to a fellow straight up for Stan Musial--he had plenty of Stan, and I wasn't interested in Martin, so it was a win-win!

Collector's Edge Promos w/Junior Seau. There are 5 dfifferent ones, and I only got three. Couldn't be there every day!

Fleer/Skybox/NBA Hoope gave out a variety of stuff, as they had a lot going on back then. For example...

NBA Hoops promo sheet.

Probably one of the better promotions was by Classic. They has special boxes of Pro Line Classic football that were only sold there, and had special inserts that were made especially for the Nat. One was a parallel for each card, numbered to 575 (each card said 1 of 575. Too bad they did individually number every card, but that would be incredibly nuts.) Here's few samples of other cards...

Back of the Faulk cards. He was on a lot of stuff, coming off a hot rookie year.

Autographs were plentiful, and a lot cheaper back then, too! I went on the Wednesday night Sneak Preview, and got mini helmets of Dick Butkis and Gale Sayers, 8x10 and a puck of Bobby Hull, (don't remember how much, but it had to be at least half of what they charge today.) and a freebie of St. Louis favorite, Conrad Dobler...

There are more promos and stuff I have, but either can't find them, or don't know where they are. Must be some Score/Pinnacle stuff somewhere! But it was still a lot of fun. Thanks for looking folks, and just for yesterday's signing by Andre Thornton--which looked like a success, BTW--here's what I found while digging through stuff...

I was there as well.
It was a great time!
I remember meeting Steve Garvey, Andre Dawson, Jesse Barfield, Curtis Joseph, Kelly Chase, and Brenden Shanahan.
I remember stayin at the same hotel as Winfield and Ali.
Wish it would come back to St. Louis, but Chicago will work for me as well.
