The buyer protection is great, but let's give the sellers some protection too: Bring back the ability for sellers to leave negative/neutrals!

So how do you solve the issue of sellers using negatives to threaten buyers who want to leave negs? how many times did people tell stories about how they didnt want to leave a justifiable negative since they were newer and were being threatened by the seller?

There needs to be something done but i'm not sure giving sellers the ability to use negatives to hold buyers hostage is the answer.

Think every experience with a buyer is a positive one? There are going to be people (sellers and buyers) who take advantage of a largely unmonitored "community" feedback system, but to restrict sellers from accurately and honestly leaving feedback for a transaction is like a gag order. There's nothing fair about the current system.

But back to the fee topic, I think it's fine that eBay is willing to re-think their fee schedule but it seems like they do it every few months or so. I wish they'd stick with one for a while.

9% flat fee? :benson: Who gives a damn about free listings. It's only $.15 right now. The FVF is the most important figure to look at.
Exactly...oh and the Paypal fee...

Looks like a fee increase. Here is one sellers spin on the new fee structure quoted from Ebays Community Message Board:

Heres an example of the now familiar ebay Bait and Switch fee increase play.

Right now, scenario: You post an auction for starting bid of 50 bucks, it sells for 50 bucks.

You pay to ebay: 1.00 insertion fee, 8.75% Final Value fee on the first $25 ($2.19), plus another 3.75% on the remaining $25 (0.94). Total ebay fees: $4.13

March, 2010, same scenario
You will pay to eBay 0.75 insertion fee (reduced by 0.25), But heres the GOTCHYA.... 8.75% Final Value fee on the first FIFTY (4.38)
Total ebay fees: $5.13.

Thats an additional fee of ONE BUCK on average, for each of your start at 50, end at 50 auction-style listings.

Thats just one scenario. No matter how you parse these numbers, we are all looking at major fee increases, hidden in the FVF increases across the board. LOOK AT THE FVFs - thats where theyre sticking it to us!

But they did say that fees would never exceed $50. So that's nice when you sell your SUPER high end cards. So just make sure everything you sell is over $550 and you have it made! :benson:

If you are selling a bunch of 1.00 cards you will save quite a bit in the end. This gives a market for 1.00 cards.

That's my guess. Unless something changes, I think I'm done for. Anyone need about 25,000 autographed baseball cards?

It's going to effect different sellers in different ways.
I used to sell a lot of low end cards.
Every once in a while something would sell for a bit more and surprise me.
It was kind of a hobby, a way to help other collectors and feed my hobby expenses as well.
I certainly wasn't getting rich but enjoyed it none the less.
I stopped listing as much because the "unsold" item fees were beginning to add up. I'm guessing the economy slowed a lot of sales.
I'm glad to see the change but can understand why some don't like it at all.

If you have the Premium Store it is $.05 and if you have the Anchor it is $.03 to list a fixed price card

Wait, since there is no more "separate" eBay store listings, does that mean it would be worth it for sellers who only do BIN/BOs to open a store and list them for $.05 instead of $.35?

Ebay is more than sports cards

I realize this, but this is a sports card website so that's what the consensus was that we were talking about.

My response before was a sarcastic remark by the way.

To get the $.05 listing it would cost $49.95 a month. If you list over 235 items per month as a fixed priced the premuim store would be best for you. This is based on someone who only lists BIN

What I do not get is if you have an ebay store you do not get the 100 free auction listing each month. It would cost you an additional $.10 for each auction on top of your store fee

My brain isn't working today . . .

If I got an Ebay store on April 1st and listed 50 items for sale, I would be charged 50 x .20 for the initial listings which = $10.

If nothing sold the entire month of April and the 50 items stayed in the store, what would I be charged in May for letting them ride?

I almost wonder if Ebay is looking at the Costco method of barely covering costs with listing fees and trying to make the real money on getting people to upgrade to stores(membership fees). Sure, many people who sell 50+ items per month would find the $16 per month reasonable if it saved them money, but I'd think knowing you have an Ebay store would get you more motivated to list things. More listings = more chances to sell. More monthly charges for those with Ebay stores and ultimately, a ton more revenue through Paypal.

Long time reader... First time poster.

As a part-time small scale gig I have an Ebay store with around 400 items, most under $25.

At current price is costs me ($15 + 400(.03)) = $27 per month
At the new price (with the upgrade to the 2nd tier of Ebay Store) ($50 + 400(.05)) = $70 per month. It's even more if I keep the current store level.

That's $40 a month.... and many more hours in order to take advantage of the 100 free listings. It is not good for me and any others with this type of store.

Just my 2 cents....

Brain is working again!

What is the monthly fee charge for unsold items in your Ebay store under the new fee structure?
