I sold a 2010 Bowman Chrome Henry Rodriguez Blue Refractor for $3.61 and mistakenly #'d the card to /150 since I was use to having blue refractors numbered to that. In my item description I mentioned that the card was #174/150, clearly my error, but the card could not have been numbered to that.

Now the buyer wants a partial refund or a card that is #/150 (obviously it doesn't exist).

Here is the auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... =all&tid=0

Was I really misleading? I was my error, I wasn't trying to mislead. I offered the buyer a full refund if I get the card but, I am not giving him a free $2. He bought the card for what it sells for.

seriously? for $5 or $6 refund the full amount and chalk it up to careless mistake. it happens, you just happened to get a dick buyer but no point in fighting over a 4 dollar card.

Well not as misleading as putting a pic of a Porcello orange refractor that had nothing to do with the auction, it was a obvious mistake. If the buyer keeps demanding a refund then tell them just to return the card for a refund.

Sorry for linking to another board, but there is an absolutely ridiculous example of how this exact situation can become a complete mess:

My opinion is just chalk it up as a loss. But stay away from partial refunds. Paypal doesn't support them, and you'll need to offer a full refund or nothing at all.

Listing error = refund if requested, period.

However, I am interested....

I can see how one may become lax and list it as a /150 card out of habbit, but to actually give a specific number such as 174/150?? How does this happen?

I mean, most buyer's won't complain because it's an extra 3 bucks out of their pocket.

Obviously, he has to return the card with DC through the mail. You can't just offer him a refund and let him keep the card.

Issue a full refund, let the buyer keep the card. Send an apology for the oversight in the listing on your part, through eBay's message system, also include similar note in Paypal refund. Let buyer know that there is no #/150 and only #/250. Move on, forget about it, life is too short to get all worked up over a $6 transaction.

Bill's words are wise as usual. I wouldn't call it misrepresentation, but eBay might not see it that way. The buyer should have known (and probably did), but in a situation like that when it's your error, you've gotta be the one to take the short end of the stick.

If the buyer returned the card, he can just open an item not as described case and those cases are generally closed within a few hours of them being opened with customer support siding with the buyer every time. It's an automated system.

OK, I'm not familiar with the ins and outs of this. Someone can literally say the item was not described and get their money back WITHOUT sending the item back? If so, that's just flat out asinine.

Did Paypal reverse the funds or simply put a hold on them? They usually require the card to be sent back before issuing a refund (assuming it was a not as described case filed against you).

Sounds like the buyer opened a case through eBay, and escalated it quickly. eBay sided in his favor and refunded him the money.

I did this a few weeks back, when I recieved a card that was damaged. I was having trouble getting the seller to communicate with me, so I filed a claim through eBay, and was refunded by eBay. Not sure if the money came from the seller or eBay however.
