ive not looked into it, but in the past there was a character "limit" you could put in for a search. i wonder if that still applies.

I have a bunch of * in my saved searches and got the same message from eBay this morning stating they will stop working after the 5th. Not sure how this is an improvement.

yeah, I've been busy the past hour editing my searches, and the limit is 100 characters - I believe that's a fairly recent change as well. The character limit coupled with the loss of the wildcard is NOT a good thing.

I completely disagree with the poster who thinks this change is a good thing as it will highlight the good sellers. In our hobby, the "lazy" or spelling-challenged sellers MUST be taken into consideration. I'm going to be fracking pissed if a card I've been looking for forever is missed because I didn't think like a fifth grader and anticipate a spelling mistake in my saved search.

It wasn't that I wasn't taking "lazy", etc. sellers into consideration, I was saying I'd rather there not be unprofessional (ie non-business) sellers to begin with.

It's certainly aggravating for both buying and selling. Most of the time when listing, I include Autograph, Auto, Refractor, Ref since many people don't know how to use the * function. Now I have to make sure that I include all of those, which can bite into the character limit.

I assume there is some sort of search capability or functionality on Ebay's part, but very little positive for buyers and sellers

Maine of course......
...all my searches are now junk as of today. Fortunately I only have a dozen or so. Guess I'll have to take some time to clean 'em up.

Wildcard searches can put more stress on a system. It might be to improve or just maintain system performance. Then again, maybe it has nothing to do with the technical issues and might be more about dumb policy.

My 12 searches turned into over 20 b/c a lot of them went over the character limit with the new fixes.

I saw it mentioned a couple times, but the main reason i did the* was so that if I'm looking for Ripken and someone wrong Ripkin, Rip* would take care of both.

Nice! I'll be looking through less stuff as well and it should save me time.

On the other hand, I've already missed my first item. Caught it after it ended because I won an item from the seller. Would have been nice to combine shipping and get them for less than the going rate.
