In my Ebay settings I do not have ant countries blocked. In the auctions I only list shipping cost to US. In the past international buyers have always asked ahead of time how much to ship to their country. I have 5 auctions ending soon and just noticed that 3 of them are being won by international bidders, they did not ask about shipping before bidding.

What are my obligations about shipping fees? The auctions are selling higher then I expected, so I was thinking about splitting the cost of International Express with them. What would you do?

thanks Roy

Just playing the devils advocate here:
You say free shipping, you dont have any restrictions as to where you ship free, as you dont say I dont ship to *** country, so how is a buyer suppose to know where you ship free and where you dont free, in your mind?
Gonna be a tough sell on charging for shipping in my opinion.
Good Luck!

Sorry, didnt click on the Shipping and Payments area, not sure how many actually do.

This is what jumps out at me:

This auction is for a 2004 SP Authentic Buyback Auto card.

5/28

COA will be included with card.

Free S&H.

Payment by PayPal only. Payment due within 4 days of end of auction.

AND

Shipping: FREE Expedited Shipping

Argue all you want, but eBay buyers are 100% a pain in the ass, and it is my opinion that if you choose to offer to split the difference with a buyer, they will play the free shipping card. Again, I say Good Luck!

Okay, thanks. Yea I am asking because I am not sure how Ebay feels about this. Never ran into it before. Hopefully they get outbid.

I think he's right. And I think ebay would side with the buyer because you didn't specifically state that you only ship to the US.

Hopefully you're covered......I understand what the above poster was saying, but isn't it just as valid to say that the auction clearly states that the item ships only in the U.S?

I listed some auctions the other night and almost forgot to do block international bidders as well.
I'm not sure why you have to manually go in and change the buyer restrictions if you already specified the item only ships within the U.S. Seems redundant and a pain.

Because of that, and the fact it's just to "automatically block" such bids I would hope you are covered. Sorry I don't specifically know if this is true or not, but a buyer shouldn't be able to say "Oh I expect it free, I didn't bother to read the auction and see that the item doesn't ship to me".
If they did win and you were comfortable shipping to them, I would offer to send for the appropriate international shipping cost.....if they are a pain about it, then hopefully things work out for you. (Or if it's that much a worry, simply contact them before hand if there's time....and/or cancel the bids).

Well it looks like everything will work out okay. The buyer that says Taiwan in his feedback has a confirmed US address. I sent a message to the seller from Japan and asked him what he expected to pay for shipping. He replied about $5. Since the card he bought sold for $168 and I was expecting about $80 I don't mind making up the difference.

Now I will go to Ebay and change my preferences. Lesson learned.

Better ship Registered Mail. Cost about $17.
