Hey All,

This is a question that I have been thinking about a lot lately as I have been listing things on Ebay...how do you maximize your auction titles to gain the most views? Since there are some really long names and card subset names and only so many characters to use in the title what should stay and what should go....example:

2008 Bowman Chrome Jason Heyward Blue Refractor Autographed Rookie #110/199.....this wont fit, so do you take out the Refractor part? The number part? The Bowman part?

Just looking for examples on how everyone lists their cards for maximum impact.

Thanks

Yep, get rid of autographed and put in auto. I'd do...

Jason Heyward 2008 Bowman Chrome Blue Refractor Auto 110/199 (if there is room put RC)

You can also remove the 110 and just do #/199...doesn't save much space, but you never know when two spaces may comein handy.

ok some good ideas, as I usually put auto instead of autograph...but I was just using that card as an example what if you had a really long name for a player or set?...do you put in UD Exquisite Personal Endorsements Auto? or Exquisite Auto? Do you always start your titles with the players name or do you start it with the year of the card? How about putting the team name in the title so you will come up listed with team searches? I have tried all different types of options when selecting the titles but don't know if I'm shortchanging myself by not using the most effective terms.
Other ideas?

Use auto instead of autograph
Use /199 instead of the full serial number of simply drop it altogether and place in the item description.

Rookie is a good word to use for the eager bidders but keep in mind the card is not a rookie by the classic or MLB definition. I'd use it for his 2007 BC cards or when his 2009 MLB rookie logo cards come out.

If you have more you want to say in a title consider paying 50 cents for the subtitle option.

Name/Year/Set then a host of options to choose from. I would think most people looking for modern cards search by player name with a smaller number searching by set name. I'm guessing team collectors come in a distant third.

Yes, BUT, if you do that, make sure the key search words are in the MAIN title, as I don't believe subtitles are searchable...I could be wrong though.

The key is to do a search on completed auctions

try to match the titles of the ones that sell for the most

(it ok if you thank my post :) )

I think a lot of it is intuitive if you start thinking about how people search. As others have mentioned no need to mention the first part of the serial number as no one searches by it. I would wonder how many search with the /199 and might consider dropping that if needed as well. I like to have the year in both forms: 2008/08 as I believe both are searched.

2008 Bowman Chrome Jason Heyward Blue Refractor Auto 08

And pay the 50 cents for the serial number in the subtitle, might catch someone's eye while searching the keywords in the title but nobody will be searching for the serial number itself probably. For a card like this there is no need to put the team name in my opinion. I highly recommend against cutting down REFRACTOR to REF.

The extra "YEAR" is not necessary because whether if you search 2008 it will still bring up 08 listings.

This is how I would list it since you are limited what you can input, but everyone's ideas work as well.

2008 Bowman Chrome Jason Heyward AUTO BLUE REFRACTOR

But for other listings spice it up by adding some loved extras such as "WOW", "LOOK", "HOT" and everyones favorite "not auto"

Drop the serial number, nobody is searching those.

I think some people might search "rc auto* 50" or something like that to see all the rookie autos serial numbered to 50. Putting the actual serial number is irrelevant unless it is the first, last or jersey number that would be searched.

Just remember that the purpose of any word in the title is to come up in search results. When someone actually reads your title, they'll be able to figure out what it's for pretty easily no matter what mix of relevant words you use. That's where the scan is important. If someone is searching "Jason Heyward auto*" they'll immediately know what you're selling when they scan the search results and see the blue picture.
