No trades for the Astros. "We want to be a contender." Right. Screw both of em. Put me on the list demanding a new GM and owner.

I think the majority of Phillies fans laughed when they hired him.

He did make some good decisions for the club, but overall he put us in a hole IMO. I guess drafting some of the guys he did he brought us out of it but I'm not sure how much of that was him.

He was always a nice guy. :?

No other annoyed 'Stros fans tonight?

Therion, you know I agree with you on wanting new management/ownership.

Maybe we can get something done in the offseason, since we have a good amount of salary opening up.

Yes Therion been waiting on that big transaction you were waiting for
I think teams should be required to try to contend or forced to sell the team

A-friggin-men.

We were contending but with Berkman and Oswalt hurt how could they betray us by not even TRYING.

I'm really upset as well, but not because they didn't make a trade to help the team this year. They're not going anywhere in 09. It's time to think about the future. We could have used some of the prospects that some of the other teams received by trading big names. I think it's time to trade Oswalt,Tejeda,Valverde and more. There should only be a few untouchables for now. Pence and Norris on the big league club and Castro,Lyles and Seaton in the minors.
And what do you think we should offer for a big time pitcher. We have very little that anyone else wants.
I hope McLane has learned his lesson about no trade clauses.

that's the hallmark of ed wade, he'll do enough to keep you interested but not enough to win.

Oswalt has expressed that he wants to retire an Astro, and I hope he does.

Lee, Valverde, Tejada though.....get what they can prospect wise. I know C. Lee has a no trade clause, but I bet he wouldn't be against a trade involving a team in the hunt this offseason.

Unfortunately it won't happen. Trade deadline has passed :/

I wouldn't be upset if I saw they were building for the future. But to do nothing pisses me off.

I think they did the right thing. Valverde's value isn't that high right now. Offer him arb and if he accepts we have a good closer for next year if he doesn't we will get 2 picks. Tejada could have netted us some prospects but we have no one good enough to man SS or 3B next year. I think they will try to resign him at 4-6 million for next year. Trading him would have screwed that up. Trading prospects to win this year would be a HUGE disaster. We are going nowhere this year. Just because the division sucks and we are only a few games out does not make us a good team.

What could they really have accomplished?

Will Valverde be a Type A free agent? Hopefully he turns down the arbitration offer they HOPEFULLY make so the 'Stros can grab some top notch players in the draft.

I don't think Tejada will accept 4-6 million since he is making 13 million this year. Maybe a sign and trade deal in the offseason, to scoop up a decent SP.

Therion -- I meant trading them in the offseason, when teams are a little more apt to moving young players to build for the season.

Valverde is probably borderline type A. It goes back at least 2 years and he led the league in saves last year. If he finishes well he will definitely be type A.

Tejada really likes it here and has said he wants to finish in Houston. He knows his skills have declined and he is not a 13 million dollar guy anymore. If we are willing to give him 2 years at 10 million with incentives that can take it up to 14 or so I bet he would take it.

If he would take a cheap contract, I would be willing to have him stay around.

Have a core the next two years of Miggy, Lance, Pence, Lee, Bourn plus hopefully Castro and Chris Johnson (if he can turn it around) would be quite nice.

If only they could shore up the starting pitching from #3-#5. Maybe Bud Norris can do that for us, but they really need to go out and sign an impact player this offseason. Maybe let Valverde walk and promote from within. I am sure Arias or Wright could handle the rigors of closing, if they didn't just let LaTroy handle it for a year and get everyone seasoned and ready to make a big run in 2011?
