Sorry in advance for the long read...

When I began collecting in 1981 as an eight year old I had no idea where this hobby would take me. I did know that I loved baseball and cards were a great way to connect with the game I loved. I was a wax pack guy and player collector. I migrated players from Buddy Bell to Darryl Strawberry to Juan Gonzalez to Josh Hamilton. All of these left me disappointed because, even though they were good players, none had a lasting, significant impact on the game. They were not Hall of Famers.

Fast forward to 2009. I met Fergie Jenkins at Rangers Fanfest and got him to sign my 1980 Topps card for $20. From there, I challenged myself to see how many HOFer autographs I could pick up for $20 or less. It turns out there are a bunch you could get for that price. Unfortunately, I ran out of cheaper guys rather quickly and turned to the bigger names.

Well today, 6 years later I received a dozen new HOFer autos in the mail which put me over 1,000 total HOFer autos!!

Here is my favorite from the bunch today that put me over the mark.

So now I have a PC that is autos from the best players to ever play. A collection that should stand the test of time. I certainly do not collect for money, but I do like to think that I am not completely flushing money down the toilet. And one that I thoroughly enjoy.

I am at 196 different HOFers. I have to say that I collect mainly cards, but I have a bunch of multi-signed pieces. I love anything Dick Perez and love picking up autos on his stuff. I don't know why I keep adding more and more of players I already have, but I would say my general rule is two fold...I buy stuff I like when I see it and I try to buy it as cheap as I can.

Here is a list of the players I have as well as how many autos I have of each.

VERY impressive ! Are there any easily obtainable ones you are missing ?

Ever consider slimming down on your duplication to go after a biggie ?

There are none I am missing that will cost me less that $100-$200 unless I just got lucky and found one cheap.

I don't really think about selling any because I don't really need the money. And besides, it would be a pain and take a whole lot of selling extra Al Kaline's to afford a Babe Ruth. ;)

Yeah I get ya, just thought it would be nice to get a biggie by basically trading for it. But it prob would take some time. Regardless the collection is impressive

I just put two and two together and finally figured out who you are! I am proud of what you did for Microsoft, and tell your wife, Melinda, "Hi" for me! Any way I can get you to come visit my school?

Great collection, by the way! Amazing stuff! Love that Reggie!

Congratulations on the amazing milestone. I love to hear how unbelievable collections started and why.

Which one is the rarest you own?

Congratulations on the milestone. Very impressive, especially the 7 Schmidt and Carlton signatures. I've always heard that Schmidt doesn't sign much stuff.
