Maybe.
At the same time, if any one player would have went I would have expected it to be Jeter.

It does say at the bottom that the ONLY Yankee employee to attend was cashman!

I heard about this on the radio and they claim the yankees were stuck in traffic. Something doesnt seem right here but either way its a shame.

There was no bus full of yankees stuck in traffic or any stuck at all. I imagine the players were asked not to attend to keep the dignity of the viewing be kept. After all someone did pass away and it would of been a circus of media and classless fans trying to get autographs. A private meeting with players might of been or might be held for the family, I would imagine that would be a lil more better thing to do.

All excuses are good excuses, but none are accepted. For no one on the team to go pay their respects to him is a freakin joke. They should all be ashamed of themselves. Esp the Yanks that have been around a long time. Just classless. The funeral is about showing respect to the person, not about you (current Yanks players and what you may have going on on off day). Just pathetic.

This is most likely what happened. I can't imagine not one freaking player showing up. Where the funeral?

I would guess Bob Sheppard would have went to any Yankee players funeral if shoe was on the other foot. I would have guessed the team itself would have made it very easy for players to attend. Just sad they had an off day and thought more of themselves, than to pay respects to a Yankee legend who I'm sure most knew on a first name basis.

Again this is just something for the media to make a big deal over. We know nothing about what arrangements were made or whatever. Some things just are not made public.

The Old Timers Game is coming up soon, perhaps something will be done as a memorial to both Sheppard and Steinbrenner at that time. Perhaps the family requested a small private affair and the organization agreed. Another day, another loose string for the Yankees haters to try to pull at.

Honestly I am not surprised.... I don't want to start a flamewar here but I am a Sox fan and this just sickens me. Sheppard was part of the Yankees' storied history and legacy, and not a single player goes. I understand players have to "get prepared" for a game and all, but how often does something like this happen? They owe it to the man to be there, and for no one to show up is disrespectful and lazy.

People are way too sensitive. Sheppard did his job and the players do theirs. I'm sure the Sheppard family was happy to not have a total media circus on their hands.

Yeah, I'm sure his family was thrilled that he worked for the Yankees for 56 years and around for 22 titles and not one player bothered to show up and pay respects.

Please, show some respect and let the Sheppard family have the opinions.

Derek Jeter, who has requested that a recording of the late Bob Sheppard introducing him be played before every one of his Yankee stadium plate appearance for the rest of his career, was asked why he had not attended Sheppard's funeral on Long Island Thursday.

"To be quite honest with you, I didn't even know his funeral was yesterday,'' Jeter said. "Having said that, I don't necessarily think you have to go to a funeral to honor someone. I think a lot of players have honored him. It's the reason why I've recorded his voice throughout the years, and I'll continue to honor him every time I go to the plate for the rest of my career. But I was not aware of it and I don't know how many of the players were aware of it.''
