Strange analogy but I get it...

What other than to get drafted first overall has Tim Beckham done to be ranked ahead of players such as Colby Rasmus?

Ranking Hosmer behind Josh Vitters, to me (and I'm still, believe it or not, entitled to my opinion in the US of A), is absolutely as insane as Johnny Depp's depiction of Hunter S. T. in that wacky Vegas flick.

As a Rays' fan since the beginning, I certainly hope he meets those standards next year, but for now it's pure speculation and credit given for draft position.

I'll take Aaron Hicks over Tim Beckham any day o' da week.

Ranking prospects is all about what the player WILL do, not what they've already done. A novel concept, huh?

It's gonna be pretty hard to beat .300 with a 30-30 and a gold glove in the toughest of outfield positions, especially for a guy that every scout and analyst in the world projects as having a maximum power potential of 20 home runs.

It's a novel concept indeed.

How bout some hints?
Not much of a hint, but he alluded to Carlos Triunfel on your last podcast with him, and viola...here he appears on this list.

The most obvious flaw in this list is the disasterous ommission of Chris Tillman.

Shortstop is the premium of premium positions. A star at SS is more valuable than a star in CF - although CF is a premium position as well.

And you would rather have another Edgar Renteria than a stud center fielder like Griffey was in his youth, but with a batting average lowered to .290-.300 in his prime?

Not me.

Thanks for the lists guys, interesting stuffs. I think we can all agree that Price, Wieters and Heyward are among the top prospects.

My post was merely to show that anyone who makes a top soandso list, it won't be perfect in everyones eyes. This is because it is someone's opinion on who they think is the best..and everyone is different in their style of ranking the players [ex: current performance/ceiling, etc.] so it will be debated no matter what your list looks like. ;)

Neftali is underrated in prospecting circles partly due to his lack of chrome.

His Prime Cuts is the single most underrated card out there today.

Interesting thought, are you saying this because it is /249?

His rarest base card, from the most expensive product you can get him in, and you can pick it up sometimes for 20 and never more than 35 dollars. Also the only base card he has that sort of pictures him in a MLB Uni. It should not sell for the same price or less than EEE and Threads. I have been trying to pick them up and been amazed at how long I have got some for.

Yeah I wish I had waited for Cuts instead of getting the EEE's I did. I like the Cuts card so much better.

The complaint I have with the cuts cards is fuzzy edges/corners, otherwise I love'em.

I'm not all that big a fan of Tillman. I thought it was cool to see Jordan Walden up in the 40s. I don't think the list is that bad. Prospect lists are so subjective and so many guys can fail that anyone calling this list insane just doesn't really get it.

Yeah but Threads and EEE can nick and get just as bad, maybe in different wants, but just as bad.

Eh, I've got a lot of 9.5s on threads and elite stuff...no 9.5s will be coming from prime cuts.

Rasmus = Griffey like?

dude

I think you are way too high on Colby Rasmus. He is a great prospect on his own merit, but Griffey was special.

If you want to make a comparison to Griffey I think possible the only valid one would be Upton.
