I take issue more with Law's smartass remarks in his chat:

http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=24678

Then he comes with idiotic responses like this:

Reid, Chattanooga: Can Nefalti Perez and Jeremy Jeffress harness their electric stuff and become pitchers and not just throwers?

SportsNation Keith Law: Neftali Perez is not a "thrower."

Who is Neftali Perez?

Jeff (KCMO): Keith, you mentioned tolerances for medicore catchers. WHat do you see about Moustakas that would have a chance to make him an elite catcher?

SportsNation Keith Law: Great catcher's body. Good enough athlete. 7 arm. And he did catch a little bit before he was drafted, so I'm not just making this idea up.

7 arm? Moustakas threw in the 90's as a pitcher - pretty sure he is more than a 7 arm.

Chris (Ames, IA): How is Villanola fifty spots ahead of Jesus Montero? Montero is still at catcher and out hit Villanola by a large margin.

SportsNation Keith Law: I don't think Montero stays at catcher. Villalona has an enormous upside as a power hitter.

Pretty much dodged that question

Tom (Austin, Texas): Keith - who loves themselves more, you or Neyer?

SportsNation Keith Law: I didn't know that Neyer loved me.

He didn't even read/respond to that properly

Nick (Milwaukee): Brewers with (paraphrased) "no star power beyond Jeffress"? Ummm Jeffress isnt even listed amongst your pitchers, but Gamel is the 6th best 3B and Escobar is a future gold glove, and 5th best, SS. I dont get it.

SportsNation Keith Law: Keep thinking. It's not that hard.

Seriously?

Pedro (Pitt): So the fact that I raked in wood bat international play with Team USA, leading the team 4 categories and 2nd in 3 more means nothing? When compared to Smoak who didnt do jack squat in intl. play.

SportsNation Keith Law: You are correct. Tiny samples mean nothing. I'm glad they taught you something at that community college you went to in Nashville.

Come on.

Sar. casm.

If you read his blog and his stuff on ESPN more often, this is the way he is.

Though, I do find it funny people think that his list is complete b.s. The guy used to work for the Blue Jays and his been working in or around the game for much longer then most of the people who have posted in this thread have been alive.

Just because you (or your stash) don't agree with him doesn't mean you have to tear apart his rankings.

I know that if anyone here posted their rankings and then someone tore it apart (which would happen), they would cry like a little bitch about it.

So, if you don't want to make your own top 100, then post it on a WORLDWIDE internet website with as much readership as Law's and then get torn apart by people who know less about the game then you do (at least in certain aspects), maybe you shouldn't tear his down without posting your own?

(Everything after the sarcasm remark isn't aimed at you LL. More of a general observance at the entire post..so please don't take it that way.)

(What's sad about this board sometimes, is that I had to actually post that I didn't want to offend someone.)

I posted a top 45 list in the blog attatched to the top 100 list that I conjured up in roughly 10 minutes. I've made 3 lists thus far and they are all different, but extremely similar.

I realize he is being sarcastic - I just think its unnecessarily so. He wastes probably 30% of the chat belittling questions and players.

As far as the rest of your post - which I know wasn't directed at me - I actually am planning to post a series of prospect lists on my blog - while it's not ESPN or anything I get upwards of 3000 hits per month and am the featured baseball writer on Today.com. Feel free to tear them apart! :)

Anthony: its not that I think I know more than Law; on the contrary. I think he is just biased to what he thinks is his unique ability to "predict" and be ahead of the curve on some of these kids. I think he plainly ignores facts that he himself later/previously recognized (look at the Brewers comment and the conflicting rankings of Escobar). His ego has him putting together lists like this so he can say "See, i was right" when all he did was plus up guys who are close to being a lock and guys that are so far removed from the Bigs that he can claim "youth" and "developement" if they bust.

ESPN has a BUNCH of guys like this. They all want to scoop other people and have to do the next exciting thing; you know, as oppossed to being right.

I'll take BA, who has more than one smart guy putting in opnions.

Plus, Law is obvioulsy an *******.

I wrote this in another post but to reiterate what I said, I think he is a tool. I could careless about his lists because I hate lists to begin with, but his belittling(sp?) of people is a huge turnoff. He obviously thinks he is above everyone else. Sure he went to Harvard, but that doesn't given him the right to be an a-hole.

I have watched ESPN my whole life but in the last year or so I have almost completely stopped. He is a prime example of why. There writers and reports have just become more smug and make more ignorant statements.

Also I have wonder why he resigned from his position with Toronto. He seemed to be on his way to becoming a GM so I wonder what happened.

Put high values on one too many Desmond Jennings maybe...

Yea, he's track record as a talent evaluator isn't too good. The Blue Jays farm wasn't exactly busting at the seams with prospects when he was there.

That's what I mean. I would bet it was a more forced resignation or something of the sort. Just doesn't add up, unless ESPN/Scouts inc. pays a hell of a lot more for then a high ranking position for a MLB team. Even if they do, the position he was in is worth more then a $100,000 raise(That's the highest amount I could possibly think of for his current job).
