who are the clowns at espn that keep showing Pujols & Votto for the triple crown race???
where the hell is Carlos Gonzalez, COL????? he has the BEST SHOT! what a bunch of FREAKING MORONS!

Pujols is out of it, he is 31 points behind in Batting AVG. wake up editors!!!!!!!!

Hell it could be a Quad crown, Gonzalez leads in SLUG also. has that ever happened???

Just to bring you back to reality, none of them have much of a shot-so it's not worth getting worked up over it.

Your man crush is 4 HR behind Pujols, and with less than a month left, that is a pretty sizeable margin to overcome. Yes, he has a much better avg-but Pujols just recently showed how much an average can be affected by a couple subpar games.

Do you honestly see Carlos making up the 4 HR to top Pujols? Because I don't.

Now, in terms of MVP-I say Gonzalez is top 2, with Votto. The way the MVP seems to be voted on(team winning matters), I say right now Votto is 1a, Carlos is 1b-which could change if the Rocks make the playoffs.

There is a reason no one has won the triple crown since the 70's-and I don't see that changing this year.

Gonzalez has has a great chance, because Pujols has alrady packed his bags for the
summer, the guy is done. 4 HR's isn't a lot. Holliday is now the heart of the St Louis
line up. I think your guy has a shot.

Don't forget that Omar Infante can still win the batting crown. He has 394 plate appearances, and needs another 108 in the last 24 games to qualify (4.5/game). He played in 29 games in August and averaged 4.6/game, so it will be close. Of course, he's now batting .339, so Gonzalez is ahead of him currently.

Why are you ranting about a channel that you never watch? ESPN has had a triple crown pujols/votto/cargo graphic for at least a few days now.

Maybe you are ranting about MLB Network instead????

I'd be surprised if anyone has won the triple crown and not led in Slugging. It would take somebody who was very close in BA and reasonably clsoe in HR and had a bunch of doubles and triples to take a slugging title from a triple crown winner.

Here we go

Yaz 1967 - Yes
Frank Robinson 1966 - Yes
Mantle 1956 - Yes
Williams 1947 - Yes
Williams 1942 - Yes
Medwick 1937 - Yes
Gehrig 1934 - Yes
Klein 1933 - Yes
Foxx 1933 - Yes
Hornsby 1925 - Yes
Hornsby 1922 - Yes
Cobb 1909 - Yes
Lajoie 1901 - Yes

So - since 1900 every triple crown winner also won the slugging title 0 the news would be when somebody wins the triple corwn and doesn't win the slugging title.

I think some people are missing the simple fact that we're even having this conversation about any player at this point in the season - let alone a couple actually having a legit shot at it at the same time. Pretty cool. Gonzalez also has an (outside) shot at a 30/30 year as well.

Random Fact of the Day

Pujols would have to strike out 68 times in this last month to catch Howard, but Pujols has only struck out 63 times this season. So I don't think he has a shot.

I was just feeling bad because I can see that no mention of Ryan Howard in this thread is making you feel jealous. :D
