I bought this ball and got it today. My third Circle G on a ball. (only one of them is on the sweet spot.) This isn't bad (black ball point fading) but since any auto on a ball like this rarely show up, I try to nab what I can. I know there are some talented people on here who make their own special cards. What do you, the huddled masses of FCB, think of having this made into a Sweet Spot-style card? Just thinking about it, that's all, and I know that the design would have to be a little different because the auto is, well, not on the sweet spot. And having the "Rawlings" insignia upside-down doesn't help either, but a good design could cover most of that up. Besides, Side-Panel just doesn't have that cool ring to it, does it?

I actually am working on a Sweet Spot-styled custom cuts set based on some minor league signatures and signatures on the side panel.

So yes...I've been tempted.

I just don't like the way they look all wrinkled when they're cut from a real ball.

I kinda like it for the older players, like the one you posted and the Spahn's I've seen, but I would hate for it to look like that for a current player or prospect.

I voted no for two reasons. First, I agree with Chris, I've never liked how the sweet spots look when they are flattened onto a card, they do look wrinkly and a "forced in". Second, yours isn't on the sweet spot, so that would make an odd looking card since it's not the typical sweet spot shape. Not saying it couldn't or shouldn't, just that I don't think the results of this particular ball would look very good.

I would probably cut the ball into a swatch like this...

and work from there. But I do like the thoughts and ideas presented so far. If UD ever made a Sweet Spot of Gary (as if) they would probably use his current auto, so making my own old style would be cool to me. :geek:

I just hate destroying things, so unless it is a notecard i am against cutting it up and putting it in anything.

Knuckles has had some success with this...he does a great job of minimizing the wrinkles too.

Here is my thought...of note...I'm not crazy about the text.

Also, I have a tendancy to design things that I know I can build...so while the standard Sweet Spot cards have a nice die-cut...I tend to stick with some fairly standard reproducible cuts (IE: Straight edges, corners and basic curves).

Oh, and based on a few baseballs I have cut up...I think the size/width of the autograph panel should be about dead-on with the actual baseball.
