I used to "compete" against a guy on eBay for Vizquel cards, and he once sent me a note to see if I'd consider selling anything. I said no, then he offed an insane amount for a few (like $100 for just a few $10 cards) and I again said no. He replied by email that he was therefore going to bid up everything I bid on just so I had to pay more. I couldn't believe what a massive a-hole this guy must be, so I replied simply "game on" and we fought back and forth for over a year. That's how I discovered sniping so after that it didn't affect me much. However he would always bid in predictable increments so I continued incrementally bidding on everything he bid on (that I already owned) and maxed out his bids. He'd pay $5 for newly released base cards, $10 + shipping for common jersey cards, $20 for cards /25, etc. He eventually disappeared and I even saw some of the cards he won show back up on eBay. I'm not an ultra competitive guy, but that really burnt me up. I absolutely guarantee I directly cost him hundreds and hundreds of dollars needlessly.

Oh, to the OP question, a couple times I did win a card through those shenanigans but I didn't really care. Karma's a b!tch and he deserved it.

Wait. He's a butt hole for doing it but it's okay that you then turned around and did it to him?

Howzat work?

Yes, exactly, 100%. He was pissed I wouldn't sell anything from my collection to him, so to spite me he started bidding on EVERYTHING I bid on, including a few other non-Vizquel cards. The guy actually TOLD me he was going to do it beforehand and then followed through. So yep, I think he completely deserved more than a little of his own medicine.

Incidentally I've made a few friends by way of collecting Vizquel cards. I'm happy when they snag a great one, fill a hole, whatever. In fact, I sent out a couple packages this xmas to 2 guys with cards from my collection that I knew they didn't have and am happy I did.

A few months ago someone on this board posted a Harmon Killebrew Topps Pristine Printing Plate that was poorly listed. I added it to my watch list. Shortly after I found an Andrew Bogut RC Auto Printing plate and also added it ot the watch list. Both were ending that day and about an hour from each other. I decided 5 minutes before company was coming over I wanted to place a bid on the Bogut.

In error I place the bid on the Killebrew not paying attention and rushing around. I won the Killebrew but did not really want it. Luckily I was able to flip it for a $12 profit

I placed a bid on a card last year and was immediately outbid (I was never the leading bidder) and I wasn't planning on paying more than the bid I had entered, so I forgot about it and moved on.

Couple days later I see that I somehow won the card. Apparently the top bidder backed out so the seller canceled his bid, making mine highest (even though I had never been the leading bidder).

haha! yeah, this actually happened to me early this year

i saw this rickey henderson topps sterling patch that was purty and i believe mike (hof dude who loves to make custom cuts) was selling it

i came across it at the last few minutes by accident, saw that it wasn't too high so i just put up a bid to see if i can get a steal and to "protect" mike's card and ended up winning it for like $155 or something which i thought was a steal

You don't see the hypocrisy of this? And I'm not calling you out or saying you're a bad person. More of a two wrongs don't make a right statement.

eBay wasn't going to do anything about it, and I wasn't going to be bullied or harassed. I choose to view it as clearly illustrating for him was an a-hole he was being. Shoe on the other foot kinda thing. In this case, my "wrong" did make it right in that he left me alone and have never seen him since. Maybe made it right for the next guy too, so this nob will think again before trying to screw the next person because he didn't get his way. The argument could be made I actually performed a community service, right? :)

I'm with the Vizquel guy on his actions- nice work sticking it to that guy! I clearly see a difference between minding your own business while collecting and going out of your way to be a dink when you don't get what you want. I'm glad to hear that the former won out over the latter.

I went thru the same thing a couple years ago. I was pretty much the only Walker collector on ebay and then over night I was fighting with two others on rarer Walker cards. I would get emails stating the same that my bids would get pushed even if she did not need it. Well this went on for a year and then she lost her job and tried to sell me her whole collection. I got half of it and it was for less that what I bid. One positive note is that I did make friends with the other Walker collector on here and thru ebay. We have traded thru here and I have bought some of his cards. Thanks Jarcar!

NO. If I don't want something, I don't waste my time bidding on it. Pretty easy concept.

So sorry you won a Red Refractor RC for $15. Poor Guy!

Happy New Year Everyone.

Have you guys ever ran across a card that was down to the last few minutes or so and you are so sure its a deal that you put a bid in only to wish you would be outbid at the very end? It happened to me for the first time earlier... I was thinking of someone else when i bid on it.. atleast its my first red refractor :?
